How To Live Like Jesus…

I have literally been sitting here for hours trying to get this post written…..

Typing words, then deleting them.

Reading and praying and reading the verses over and over again.

More typing and more deleting.

I have words in my heart that are having trouble getting out……nights like tonight tend to become early mornings for me.

You see, blogging is a struggle for me. I’m not a natural writer. Words don’t normally flow from me very easily. I struggle with them, pray over them and ask God just to speak through me.

I am only a vessel.

There is so much on my heart that I’d love to share concerning Luke chapter 5, but the biggest point I see is Jesus’s love and compassion for all the different types of people He encountered.

  • The leper
  • The paralyzed man & his friends
  • The Pharisees
  • The tax collectors

If we truly want to “Live Like Jesus”, we have to be willing to rub shoulders with people who are different from us.

We have to be willing to reach out and touch those who are hurting.

We have to extend words of encouragement and generously give hugs of compassion to those who are hurting, broken and discouraged.

I have one life to live and I want to daily give it away to whoever God chooses to place in my life for that particular day.

From the moment I took my first breath, the ticking clock of my numbered days began.

I want every day to matter.

The good days and the bad days…I want them all to matter.

I have been given this one beautiful life…….I want it to count, I want it to bring glory to God.

I want to live my life like Jesus…for Jesus.

I want to love people the way He loves people.

I want to see them the way He sees them.

I want to have the same compassion that He has for people.

I want to mourn with those who are mourning and rejoice with those who are rejoicing. (Romans 12:15)

In order to be more like Christ…..I need to go where He goes. Even if that means to the “other” side of the tracks…

I need to associate with those He associated with….

Jesus came for the hurting, the lost….am I not called to reach out to the same?

Living Like Jesus means getting out of my comfort zone.

It means, “rubbing shoulders” with those I feel I don’t have very much in common with.

It means reaching out and touching the “lepers” in my life….and realizing I have a lot in common with them.

We are all needing a touch from our Savior.

We all need to hear that He is willing…

Willing to walk this straight and narrow path with us.

Willing to help us seek His face each day.

Willing to forgive on the days that we have failed.

Willing to extend, grace, love and compassion to us just like He did to those we have read about this week.

You see, we are all infected with sin…some of us just wear the effects of our sins more visibly than others but make no mistake, we are all desperate for a touch from our Savior.

This past January I wrote my 2013 New Year resolutions down in a journal, this is what I wrote:

“I want to “Live Like Jesus” this year. By the end of 2013 I want to be more like Christ than I was at the beginning of 2013…plain and simple, that’s my resolution.”

I want to love more, love deeper and love greater.

I want to see people the way Jesus sees them. With love, compassion and understanding.

If we want to be like Jesus, we have to step out of our “circles” of comfort and step into other people’s worlds.

As a Christian, I want to live my life like Jesus lived His……fully engaged in God’s work knowing His purpose and acting on it with love and compassion.

To the leper,  Jesus reached out and spoke the words, “I am willing.” He didn’t have to, Jesus could have healed the leper with His words, but Jesus knew that wouldn’t be enough…..Jesus reached out his hand and touched him, “I am willing..” Then Jesus spoke words of love and encouragement. Am I not called to do the same? Reach out, touch those who are hurting in my life and then speak words of love, compassion and healing.

My challenge for us as we strive to “Live Like Jesus” is to lovingly reach out to those who no one touches, to truly “be willing” to be Jesus’s hands and feet on this earth by being watchful of those who are discarded by others.

A few years later, Jesus will stretch out His hands….. on a cross and this time through the sacrifice of His life He said…..”I am willing” once again.

What are some ways you can say, “I am willing” in your life?

What are some ways we can “Live Like Jesus” this week as we seek to be Jesus’s hands and feet to a hurting world?

Love God Greatly!

Luke {Week 1} ~ God’s plan… our response.

Good Morning Girls!!!

Aahhhh… the waiting is finally over (Seriously, am I the only impatient girl here during the enrollment periods?!  Ok, I didn’t think so. :)), and we are more than thrilled to have you along for this new adventure as we kick-off our Winter Study ~ LIVING LIKE JESUS {Luke 1-8}!!!

Alright… truth.  Does that title intimidate you at all?  If I’m honest, it does me a little.

You see, I know myself.  I know how I might be able to pull off a pretty convincing exterior sometimes (or not), but how deep down my heart is as deceitful and sinful as it gets (Jer. 17:9).  Living Like Jesus... how in the world am I ever going to pull that off??  But then I remember…

God had a plan.

Long before you or me or this world ever began.

His plan was to rescue us.

From ourselves, from our sin, from this fallen world that provides nothing but empty promises.

Jesus came… so that we might have life!

Doesn’t that thought just blow you away?!  Apart from Christ, we can do nothing (John 15:5). But with Christ living in us, all by His grace, it is possible to look more and more like Him (2 Cor. 5:17).

This week.  No, today How will you respond to the news that Christ has come?

Will you live more and more like Jesus?

That, my friend, is what the book of Luke is all about.

{If you are unable to see this video, you can view it here.}

I love how Sally Lloyd-Jones, author of The Jesus Storybook Bible, so simply, yet so eloquently speaks to the hearts of my children (and brings out all sorts of emotions in mine!!) on the purpose behind God’s love letter to them:

“No, the Bible isn’t {just} a book of rules, or a book of heroes.  The Bible is most of all a Story.  It’s an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure.

It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne ~ everything ~ to rescue the one he loves.  It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life!

You see, the best thing about this Story is ~ it’s true.  There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories are telling one Big Story.

The Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them.

It takes the whole Bible to tell this Story.  And at the center of the Story, there is a baby.  Every Story in the Bible whispers his name.

He is like the missing piece in a puzzle ~ the piece that makes all other pieces fit together, and suddenly you can see a beautiful picture.”

Thank you so much for joining us on this beautiful journey.  As we pursue Jesus, may we live more and more like Him.

At His feet,

Winter Session Enrollment Starts TODAY!

I’m excited to announce our GMG winter session enrollment starts TODAY!

Winter Session Info:

Enrollment: January 1st-January 14th

Session dates: January 14th-March 8th
What is Good Morning Girls? (GMG)
If you have never heard of Good Morning Girls before here’s a little explanation. “Good Morning Girls” is a title for a group of women who use email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype or text messaging to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 3+ years, I have been a part of a group of girls who email each other each daily after we have our quiet time. We say “Good Morning” and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children’s naps or at bedtime. The time of day doesn’t matter…..our focus is just being in God’s Word daily!

Here is a video about Good Morning Girls and a few testimonials from my own personal GMG friends!

For those of you viewing this in your email, click here.

Who can join?
Single women, married women, women with kids, women without kids, high school or college girls….. basically ANY woman who wants to pursue walking with Jesus. (This is our belief statement- scroll to bottom of page).

Why?
Our main goal is to be accountable to each other and to help each other maintain the discipline of reading God’s word daily as we apply what we are reading to our lives.

What’s the commitment?
Joining a Good Morning Girls group requires commitment. Now that I have had time to watch these groups form and grow, I am aware that some start strong but then fizzle out. As a result the entire group can get discouraged. So it is very important that if you join a group you remain committed to the end. Even if you can only check in once or twice a week – please do not quit completely. The other girls WANT to hear from you!

This is a 2 month commitment.
The winter session runs from January 14th-March 8th.

What To Study?
The winter SOAP Bible reading plan of Luke 1-8 is optional.
You can choose as a group to read through a certain book of the Bible together, to join a Bible study together such as a Beth Moore study or each do your own thing.

What we provide: (FREE)

  • SOAP Bible reading plan (we also call it a bookmark because we print it off and leave it in our Bibles to mark where we are reading)
  • Living Like Jesus: Luke 1-8 eBook for you to journal and record your S.O.A.P. quiet times
  • weekly videos that provide further understanding and personal application
  • weekly blog posts on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays to help you dig into the scripture of the week and gain better insight and application.
  • challenges aimed at helping you put God’s Word into action in your life.
