{Week 6} Ministry of Motherhood Chapters 7 & 8 Commentary

Today we are finishing week 6 of our Ministry of Motherhood book club. Courtney and I weren’t able to Skype together this week so you got just me this time. I’m actually in the midst of preparing for my brother’s wedding, which is taking place at my house this Saturday,  so today’s post is going to be really short. So sorry I haven’t been able to be online a lot these last few weeks, I’ve been so busy with wedding preparations that I haven’t had any free time. I’ll make sure and post a few pictures of the big day once this weekend is all over.

Chapter 7

“When we take the opportunity to expose our children to the glory of God displayed in a rainbow or powerful ocean waves or a star-studded night sky, we are helping them understand that there is a Being much bigger than themselves who created the universe and holds it together with his power.” – Sally Clarkson, pg 85

Chapter 8

“Many of the people Jesus reached out to probably would have felt out of place in the temple.”- Sally Clarkson, pg 89

“When we understand that God’s love reaches into the dark and depraved corners of people’s lives to bring healing and eternal life, then we will see people not for what they are but for who they are- people Christ loves and who need his redemption.”- Sally Clarkson, pg 91

Praying you enjoyed chapters 7 & 8 this week!

What spoke to you from the assigned reading this week? I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time…

{Week 6} Ministry of Motherhood Book Club: Ch 7 & 8

Let’s begin week 6 in our Ministry of Motherhood book club with Sally Clarkson! This week we will finish reading about the Gift of Inspiration.

I am so excited for you to read chapters 7 & 8 this week because of all the wisdom Sally shares. This week Sally challenges us to point out the evidence of God’s glory to our children to help them develop a better understanding of who God is and how mighty He is….how He is all around us IF we take the time to open our eyes and truly look for Him!

Putting what we’re reading into practice: This week look for opportunities to point out the evidence of God’s power and glory to your children. Examples might include: Rainbows, sunsets…….anything that was made by God’s hands.

“At other times he pointed to natural reality- storms, floods, trees and their fruit, grapes and vines, flowers, birds, wind and waves- as evidence of the Father’s work and his presence.” - Sally Clarkson, pg 83

My favorite quote from today’s video:

“Inspiration is that area of the heart that says, I’m going to accomplish something great.”- Sally Clarkson

{Week 5} Ministry of Motherhood Chapters 5 & 6 Commentary

Week 5 of our Ministry of Motherhood book club is coming to an end today! My prayer is that you were encouraged this week as you read chapters 5 & 6. In today’s video Courtney and I discuss the Ministry of Motherhood summer bible studies that have recently begun in our homes as well as our favorite part of this week’s reading.

Chapter 5

One of the biggest points that stuck out to me in chapter 5 was this quote from Sally:

“…we get lost in these multitudinous tasks that rule our lives, and we lose sight of the underlying purpose behind all these tasks, which is to prepare our children to go into the world and make disciples for our Lord.”- Sally Clarkson

I love how Sally talks about pointing out the skills and talents God has given each of our children to be used to glorify Him. Teaching our children that their lives are not their own, but that they should be good stewards of the skills God has given them and the ultimate goal our their lives is to bring glory to God.

“Each of our children has been given a specific personality and a particular set of circumstances that will give shape to God’s purpose for his or her life.”- Sally Clarkson

I think as mothers we need to have this reminder too, that God specifically made each of our children with the exact personality and temperament He did for them to glorify Him later in their lives. I know some days certain aspects of their personalities can drive us crazy, but let’s try to remember God made them this way for a reason…..our job is to help direct our children to develop their skills and personalities in ways that will one day bring glory to Him. We may not like that stubborn streak that we see some days…….but our child may need to have that in order to accomplish and not give up on what God has called him or her to.

Something I have recently begun saying to my daughters each night when we have some one-on-one time together is just what Sally mentions on page 68, “I wonder how God will use you in the world.” It’s so important for our children to know God does have a purpose for their life……they each have a very important role in His story.

Chapter 6

For those of you who have older children, I thought this quote from Sally was so important to share with your children.

“With all the skills, background, and personality the Lord has given me, how can I best serve him and tell others about his kingdom? What job should I pursue so that I may serve him best in all that I do?”- Sally Clarkson

I love how she challenges us to keep our focus on what is eternal instead of what is ordinary and will one day pass away.

Another favorite quote was…

“…God is not measuring them by how much money they make, what kind of car they drive, or how big a house they are able to buy. By God’s standards, our children will be successful in life if they are willing to love and follow Christ wherever they are asked to go. And this is an attainable goal. What he has called us to do he will give us the ability to complete.” – Sally Clarkson

All I can add to the above quote is an “Ahem!!!”

Now it’s your turn to share! What touched your heart the most this week as we read chapters 5 & 6? What encouraged you?

For those of you who don’t have a group yet, feel free to join Courtney and I on Facebook or Twitter each day- we will be your group for you.

{Week 5} Ministry of Motherhood Book Club

Let’s begin week 5 in our Ministry of Motherhood book club with Sally Clarkson! This week we will begin reading about the Gift of Inspiration.

The Gift of Inspiration is personally one of my favorite gifts Sally discusses in this book. I love how Sally continually reminds her children they were created for a purpose. It’s so important for our children to realize they are here on this earth to do something very special for our Lord. Teaching them they each have a “part” to play in God’s epic story not only gives them a purpose for their lives but also a sense of responsibility to make sure they make wise decisions and obey the Lord so that they fulfill their part in God’s story. Teaching our children that God created them with a certain personality, skills and talents to play the role He designed just for them. As Christians, we all have a part to play in this beautiful story that God is writing through the lives of His children. We are each called to different roles, but put together our lives tell a story unlike one we can ever imagine.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from today’s video:

“We are created by God for a purpose that is bigger than ourselves. We are not the center of the universe. We are here to usher in God’s Kingdom.”- Sally Clarkson

“Someday you will meet Jesus face to face and have to give an account of your life. How were you a steward of the gospel?”- Sally Clarkson
