Week 5 of our Ministry of Motherhood book club is coming to an end today! My prayer is that you were encouraged this week as you read chapters 5 & 6. In today’s video Courtney and I discuss the Ministry of Motherhood summer bible studies that have recently begun in our homes as well as our favorite part of this week’s reading.

Chapter 5

One of the biggest points that stuck out to me in chapter 5 was this quote from Sally:

“…we get lost in these multitudinous tasks that rule our lives, and we lose sight of the underlying purpose behind all these tasks, which is to prepare our children to go into the world and make disciples for our Lord.”- Sally Clarkson

I love how Sally talks about pointing out the skills and talents God has given each of our children to be used to glorify Him. Teaching our children that their lives are not their own, but that they should be good stewards of the skills God has given them and the ultimate goal our their lives is to bring glory to God.

“Each of our children has been given a specific personality and a particular set of circumstances that will give shape to God’s purpose for his or her life.”- Sally Clarkson

I think as mothers we need to have this reminder too, that God specifically made each of our children with the exact personality and temperament He did for them to glorify Him later in their lives. I know some days certain aspects of their personalities can drive us crazy, but let’s try to remember God made them this way for a reason…..our job is to help direct our children to develop their skills and personalities in ways that will one day bring glory to Him. We may not like that stubborn streak that we see some days…….but our child may need to have that in order to accomplish and not give up on what God has called him or her to.

Something I have recently begun saying to my daughters each night when we have some one-on-one time together is just what Sally mentions on page 68, “I wonder how God will use you in the world.” It’s so important for our children to know God does have a purpose for their life……they each have a very important role in His story.

Chapter 6

For those of you who have older children, I thought this quote from Sally was so important to share with your children.

“With all the skills, background, and personality the Lord has given me, how can I best serve him and tell others about his kingdom? What job should I pursue so that I may serve him best in all that I do?”- Sally Clarkson

I love how she challenges us to keep our focus on what is eternal instead of what is ordinary and will one day pass away.

Another favorite quote was…

“…God is not measuring them by how much money they make, what kind of car they drive, or how big a house they are able to buy. By God’s standards, our children will be successful in life if they are willing to love and follow Christ wherever they are asked to go. And this is an attainable goal. What he has called us to do he will give us the ability to complete.” – Sally Clarkson

All I can add to the above quote is an “Ahem!!!”
