Easter…the Ultimate Love Story

Good Morning Girls- Women's Online Bible Study #WhyEasterMatters

The Easter story when you really read it, think about it and dive into it…..well it’s a love story.

It’s a story about a hero laying down His life for those who can’t help themselves, can’t save themselves.

People tangled in bondage to sins, failures, regrets and mistakes.

It’s a story of a Son’s radical obedience to His Father, all for the sake of reconciliation of sinful people.

Today’s reading we see the biggest moment in the history of the world (next to His birth)…our Savior’s death.

“With a loud cry, Jesus breathed His last.” Mark 15:37

The One who came to seek and save the lost, became the spotless lamb who was slain.

The One who loved well and lived a sinless life, died a gruesome sinner’s death.

The One who created life was sacrificed for the very ones He breathed life into.

And at His death, the curtain that separated our Holy God from sinful people, was torn in two…starting at the top. (Mark 15:38)

Isn’t that like God, He is always the one initiating, reaching out…..loving first.

And this “curtain”…it wasn’t your everyday curtain, not by any stretch of the imagination. It was around 60 feet in height, 30 feet in width and four inches thick!

The tearing of the curtain from top to bottom, showed that Christ’s death for our sins now gave us direct access to God. We no longer need a middle man.

Because of what Christ did on the cross, we can now approach God with confidence and boldness. (Hebrews 4:14-16) No longer do we need to go through a priest or sacrifice an animal to have our sins forgiven. Jesus is the High Priest who willingly, lovingly laid down His life so that we now have unlimited and direct access to God.

“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body …let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.” (Hebrews 10:19-22)

And on that old rugged cross, our sweet Lord said, “It is finished”…..mission complete.

So sweet friends, allow this truth to not only enter your mind, but let it go further and let it penetrate deep into your heart and change you from the inside out! Don’t go through the motions this Easter but rather allow God to do a mighty work in your heart as you focus on the price He has paid for your salvation.

Don’t ever forget that the grace we experience from God is free…..but it is not cheap. Our freedom, our forgiveness, our hope in eternity was all purchased with His blood.

Let us live changed, focused and humbled by what Christ did on the cross for me and for YOU!

Let’s Talk:

How has Christ’s sacrifice changed you personally? How are you a different woman, wife, mother, friend, daughter because of what Jesus did for you on the cross?

Good Morning Girls- Women's Online Bible Study #WhyEasterMatters

Ohh and for those of you who have kids at home….keep telling them about Jesus! I found this note on my computer tonight from my oldest daughter…she wanted me to share this with you. :)

“God was nailed to the cross and He was in so so so much pain but He loved us so so so much that He died on the cross for us. But not just for us, for ALL of US! And you know how we know this is true? Because the Bible is God’s Words and it is the most important book in the world!”

{Re-Post} How To Soap Your Quiet Time

SOAP-Quiet-Time

I’m proud of you….I really am….I want YOU to know that.

I’m proud of you for making the commitment this session to be in God’s Word…..to be reading it each day and applying it to YOUR life……the beautiful life our Lord has given YOU.

Each session we create a study guide that goes along with the verses we are reading.  This study guide is to help you interact with God’s Word and learn to dig deeper…. slowing down to really read what God is saying to you that day.

Today I want to take the time and explain what the S.O.A.P. method is and WHY you should use it during your quiet time.

Why S.O.A.P. it?

It’s one thing to simply read scripture, but when you interact with it, when you learn to slow down to REALLY read it,  suddenly words start popping off the page. By SOAPing your verses you are able to dig deeper into scripture and “see” more than if you simply read the verses and then went on your merry way. Let me encourage you to take the time to S.O.A.P. the daily verses and see for yourself how much more you get out of your daily reading……you’ll be amazed.

What does S.O.A.P. mean?

S- The S stands for Scripture- you physically write out the scripture……you’ll be amazed that what God will reveal to you just by taking the time to slow down and actually write out what you are reading!

O- The O stands for observation- what do you see in the verses that you’re reading? Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you?

A- The A stands for Application- this is when God’s Word becomes personal. What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my own personal life? What changes do I need to make? Is there an action that I need to take?

P- And finally P stands for Prayer. Pray God’s Word back to Him. If He has revealed something to you during this time in His Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life.

Studying God’s Word like this can take as little or as long as you have time to give. Some days it can take just 10 or 15 minutes, other days longer.

How do I S.O.A.P.?

Here is a personal example….

Colossians 1:5-8

S- The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

O- (Many times I just bullet my observations……what I’m seeing at first glance when looking at the verses)

  • When you combine faith and love, you get hope.
  • We have to remember that our hope is in heaven…….it is yet to come.
  • The gospel is the word of truth.
  • The gospel is continually bearing fruit and growing from the 1st day to the last.
  • It just takes one person to change a whole community…..Epaphras.

A-Something that stood out to me today was how God used one man, Epaphras to change a whole town!!! I was reminded that we are simply called to tell others about Christ……it’s God’s job to spread the gospel….to grow it and have it bear fruit. I felt today’s verses were almost directly spoken to GMG…..“all over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.” Isn’t it fun when God’s Word becomes so alive and speaks directly were we are at?!!!! My prayer today is that all the women involved in this Bible study will understand God’s grace and have a thirst for His Word.

God's Word SOAP

P- Dear Lord, please help me to be a “Epapras”…..to tell others about you and then leave the results in your loving hands. Please help me to understand and apply what I have read today to my life personally, thereby becoming more and more like you each and every day. Help me to live a life that bears the “fruit” of faith and love……anchoring my hope in heaven, not here on earth. Help me to remember that the BEST is yet to come!

_____________________________________________________

I’ll be honest with you and say there are many days I write on the front and back side of my study guide…..but you don’t have to. Just take it one day at a time, and write as you respond to what God has shown you through His Word.

The most important ingredients in the S.O.A.P. method is YOUR interaction with God’s Word and your APPLICATION of His Word for YOUR life.

I hope this explanation helps you today as you learn to dig deeper into God’s Word.

My response to Ephesians…Live a life of love!

Tonight as I sit at my computer resting from celebrating my Savior’s resurrection with my family, I look over the verses we have just covered the past 12 weeks together and these verses pop out at me:

Remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.” –Ephesians 2:12-13

At one time I was without hope…..without God.

At one time I was far away from God…but Jesus brought me near.

Thank you Jesus for the hope and relationship we have with you! Though once we were far from you, thank you for bringing us near through your precious blood.

Thank you for living and dying a life of love for us!

For me personally the one verse that sums up Ephesians would be Ephesians 5:1

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Be an imitator…be like Christ.

How did Christ live his life? He lived a life of love.

He loved us so much he sacrificed everything…..HE became the offering.

I want to imitate Christ with my life as a wife, mom, daughter, friend…..as a sister in Christ.

Be imitators of God….live a life of love….

As I take my place in God’s family…I need to live a life of love.

As a child of God who has been adopted into his family by grace…Eph 2:8

As I go through life with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ…I need to live a life of love.

With my brothers and sisters in Christ, be humble, gentle, patient….bear with one another in love. Eph 4:2

As I pursue my role as a wife …I need to live a life of love.

Wives, submit to your husband, as to the LORD.Eph 5:22

As a daughter and a mother …I need to live a life of love.

Honor your father and mother…do not exasperate your children…Eph 6:4

The whole book of Ephesians is about living our lives loving others, and loving God. Paul concludes by  encouraging us to be STRONG in the LORD and His mighty power….we will have struggles….living a life of love and sacrifice isn’t easy. We will need God’s help. There is a battle going on and we are the targets. We are reminded in verse 6:12 that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world…”

My advice to all of us….

Pray….work on making it a habit to be in constant communion with God.
Focus……focus on Jesus and don’t look around at what others are doing,  just stay focused on him and in his Word.
Love….imitate Christ and live a life of love.

Thank you again from the bottom of MY heart for joining me these past 12 weeks as we have studied the book of Ephesians together! You are a blessing to me!

Please join us this summer as we study the life of the Proverbs 31 woman!!!! God has great things in store for us this summer!
