I want to kick this session off with some of my personal Bible study tips and methods!  So take 7 minutes and watch the video below (if you are getting this in an email click here to view the video.)

Now where do we begin?  Take today to introduce yourselves and get acquainted.  Share something about yourself like your testimony, how long you have been married, number and ages of kids, your favorite things to do, cook, places to go, favorite verse in the Bible etc.  Take today and tomorrow to connect – feel free to share what you are learning right now in the word or something God taught you this summer.

On Monday, set those alarms –  wake early – read your Bible and then contact your Good Morning Girls to let them know you have had your quiet time.  Share something you learned or are praying about.  Be open.  Be encouraging.  Be praying for each other.  Be disciplined and most importantly…Be committed to your quiet time and your group.  Have fun and we’ll see you back here Monday!

It’s Time to Share and link-up

A few of you have asked to see how we are completing the S.O.A.P. method so I thought I’d show you what I wrote down for today’s verses. Hope this helps!

James 1: 22-24

S- Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

O- In these verses I observe that I am not to just listen to God’s Word- being passive. God calls us to be active in our faith by doing what it says. Being a doer helps us to remember what God’s word says. Moving from passive listener to active doer helps us to internalize God’s Word and moves us into better understanding.

A- I need to make sure that I am moving beyond just reading and listening to God’s Word. I want my faith to be active. I want to be a doer of God’s Word. I want God’s truth to penetrate the deepest levels of my heart. I don’t want to simply take in God’s Word, I want His Words to change me. I want to become more like Christ each day- Christ wasn’t passive. His faith was active. My faith needs to be active too.

P- Lord, please help me to find ways to put your words into action in my life. Please change me from the inside out. Please keep me from being like the man who hears your words and does not allow them to change him. Please bless me with head knowledge and heart knowledge. I pray when people see me- they truly only see you. Use me Jesus.

Here’s another example for you from our reading this week:

James 1:19-20

S- My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

O- Everyone includes ME! I need to listen more and react less. I need to speak less- no rants! My anger is unrighteous and undesirable to God.

A- Listen more- slow down. Slow down my reactions- be wise-don’t be emotional. My anger displeases God.

P- Lord, help me as I deal with the children to be quick to listen and slow to speak and slow to anger. I am their role model. Help me to teach this to my children by living it first. I love you Jesus!

Here I explain in greater detail what each section stands for, remember these are just guidelines to help you.

S- stands for “Scripture” you are to write out the verses in your own handwriting. By the end of our James study, you will have written out the WHOLE book of James! Also writing out the scripture helps you to understand it better and take a closer, slower look at the verses.

O- stands for “Observations“, what do you notice in this passage? You may want to summarize the verses in your own words, but most importantly write down what you hear God saying to you in these verses. What new observations or insights have you learned?

A- stands for “Application“, how can you apply what you just read to your life? Make it personal. Is there something that you need to change? Someone you need to forgive?

P- stands for “Prayer“, pray over what God has shown you today through His Word. Ask Him to help you live it out.

Thanks for making the time to be in God’s Word a priority in your life!

Learning to LOVE GOD GREATLY right along with you!!!

I Have A Wonderful Counselor

One of my favorite verses to reflect on at Christmas time is Isaiah 9:6 which says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Today I want to focus on the first name that God calls baby Jesus – “Wonderful Counselor“. He is wonderful because he is both God and man.

Have you ever had a friend or relative whose opinion you highly valued. Maybe it seems like each time you’ve gone to them with your problems – they simply get it. They understand you and they can perceive what is best in your situation.

Maybe you have no one like that in your life??? Many people these days pay a lot of money to have a listening ear and wise counsel. What we need to remember is that this little baby born in a Bethlehem stable is not just a warm fuzzy story for our children – but this baby was born to be your Wonderful Counselor. His counsel comes straight from the throne room of heaven! WOW! Ponder that for a minute!

Jesus understands you when no one else does. Jesus is there for you when you are all alone. Right now as you sit and read this – He is with you – He knows your every thought and your innermost hurts and needs. He loves you so.

How often do we find ourselves talking over a problem with a friend for  an hour versus how often do we find ourselves alone with God reading scripture trying to solve a problem for an hour?

Do you consider Jesus to be your “Wonderful Counselor“. That’s who He is. Is your life a little tangled and you wish you could unravel some of the messes you have made? GO to Jesus – he is the Wonderful Counselor. DO what his word says and TRUST Him – and watch his word guide you through your darkest hours.

If you will allow him to be your Wonderful Counselor every single day of your life, in 10 years you will be in an entirely different place than if you hadn’t.

A God Encounter At the Relevant Blogging Conference

Angela and I (Courtney) just got back from being together for 3 glorious days at the Relevant Blogging Conference!!!

As Alyssa, Kingdom First Mom said, the conference left women “tearfully reaching for God not our blogs“.

We went there to learn new things about the blogging world and to be inspired and left having encountered GOD.

Angela and I both prayed that God would give us a clearer vision for the Good Morning Girls and GOD ANSWERED!  I am just so excited to share with you that God has clearly shown us a new direction for January.

Angela and I will be creating a Bible Study curriculum that is special for you all. It will be simple, deep and optional. Each group can choose to join Angela and I while we stroll through a book of the Bible together or you can choose to do your own thing. But for groups that feel unsure of what to read next – we have a plan and we will share it all with you in December! (Actually we have two plans!!)

We prayed and asked God for help. We sought counsel from Sally Clarkson and we believe we have an answer from God and are overjoyed!!!

Thank you for sticking with us on this journey and Keep Walking with the King!!!Courtney

Life Management and Keeping God First

One of my favorite books is “Life Management for Busy Women” by Elizabeth George. This book covers so many areas that I struggle with regularly in life. The last time I read through it (I’ve read it a number of times now), I journaled my
favorite quotes from the book – let me share a few with you:

“Behind the passionate life of every passionate saint is a passion for God and his word.”

“Discipline (in reading God’s word)…you do it because it is what you need to do and are supposed to do and because it is the right thing to do…somehow…the duty of the discipline turns into sheer delight and we reap the blessings of a priceless, tender relationship with the Lord a thousandfold.”

“We must never allow ourselves to be mastered by anything or anyone other than Jesus. We aren’t meant to live as we please. We are not meant to have what we want. We are meant to live a life of self-denial, self-restraint and self-control.”

“Paul’s secret to discipline…he wanted to please God.”

“Strive, reach, press, endure, fight, run and continue!”

Which area of your life do you struggle the most to manage? Your walk with God, your physical life, financial life, your homemaking skills, your marriage, parenting, your friendships or ministry life?

Thanks to my Good Morning Girls, I can say that my walk with God is better than ever. I would say my weakest area is my physical life. I am not getting the sleep I should and not eating as healthy as I know I should. I do exercise no less than 4 times a week but I still struggle with the other aspects of maintaining good health.

When I look at my weaknesses it just reminds me of how needy I am for God and his help in my life. And so, with continued fervor and perseverance “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:14.

Press on Good Morning Girls, Keep Christ first and keep walking with the King!
