James 4:1-12 ~ Are You Being Loyal To God or Adulterous?

This week’s passage cut me to the quick.

I feel like I have grown close to James while writing out this book and studying his words.

Do you know how James died???

Not long after writing the book of James he was martyred in Jerusalem in 62AD. He was taken by a high priest to a high point on the temple and they demanded that he renounce Christ. When he refused he was pushed over the edge of the temple and then stoned.

Hegesippus tells us that at this point “they went up and threw down the just man [from the temple height], and said to each other, ‘Let us stone James the Just.’And they began to stone him, for he was not killed by the fall, but he knelt down and said, ‘I entreat thee, Lord God our Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do’ [thus following his brother's example to the last]. One of them, who was a fuller, took the club with which he beat out clothes and struck the just man on the head. And thus he suffered martyrdom” (quoted in Biblical Archaeology Review, November-December 2002, p. 32).

James lived and died a loyal life to the glory of God.  And I am challenged…how am I living?

This week’s video includes the story of one of my classmates from the Moody Bible Institute who died a martyrs death.  Both her living and dying inspires me and I think she’ll inspire you too.

What Is God’s Purpose In Trials?

If I could, I’d reach out and give each and everyone of you a big hug! Thank you for such an amazing week last week! God is soooo GOOD! I can’t begin to tell you how encouraged Courtney and I are to hear how you’re enjoying using the S.O.A.P. method! I just want you to know that those of you who left comments last week on our blog or on our Facebook page, each and everyone of your comments touched our hearts! I LOVED reading about each of your groups. I loved reading how you can see God’s hand in who He put in your group! Being apart of GMG is such a wonderful blessing and an answer to prayer!

This week we are starting week 2 in our 12 week series. My prayer for each of you is that as we dig further into James this week:
1. God will give you a hunger for His Word.
2. You will make it a priority in your life to be in His Word.
3. He will open your eyes to new truths in His Word!

I’d like to share with you a quick video of what I learned last week as we read about God’s purpose in trails.

If you are following along with us in James don’t forget to download this week’s S.O.A.P. print-out. This week, we are reading James 1:12-18

My Life Verse

A “life verse” is a verse or passage in the Bible that is significant to you. It may define your life, give you inspiration or direction, be something that you hang onto as you face difficult circumstances, or it could even be the passage of scripture that brought you to a belief in Jesus Christ.

My life verse is Galatians 6:9 which says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF we do not give up!”

This verse applies to every hard thing in life. When I am weary of getting up early for my quiet time (or to blog) I remind myself “do not give up“. When I’m tempted to be critical of my husband, I am reminded -”do not grow weary“. When my children need disciplined over and over and over I am reminded “do not give up.” When I grow weary in different aspects of serving at church I am reminded “do not give up”. When I pray for lost loved ones year in and year out with no signs of change I am reminded “do not give up.”

This verse helps me to persevere when I am weary and want to give up – why? Because in time there will be a harvest – but only IF we do not give up!

I believe we need this verse today because we are on the homestretch of the fall session of Good Morning Girls.  Next Wednesday, December 15th, it comes to an end.  Do not get weary now – finish strong!

Do you have a life verse?  Share it with me in the comments section if you’d like!
