Our Summer Family Verses & WIWW Link-Up Party!

Two weeks ago, Angela shared a great way to train our children in the word – by having them draw pictures!

So this week I thought I’d share one way we have been growing in God’s word this summer.

As you see in the picture – we have a verse of the week.  All of our verses this summer focus on missions, reaching out and caring for others.  So the week I took this picture it was I John 3:18.  This past week it was Luke 9:23.  I have listed the 4 ways we can live out our memory verse.  This list was found in Mitzi Eaker’s book Missions Moments 2 – 52 Easy-to-Use missional messages and activities for Today’s Family.”

Each day we say the verse out loud and discuss ways we can apply it.  We go down through the list of 4 applications and ask if anyone can share a way that they have lived out the verse that day.  This is giving the entire family accountability and good discussion.

This board was previously called my “Heart Chart” where I did vice and virtue training.  I shared about that here.

So what are you all up to in your home?  We’d love to hear what God is teaching you and your children!

Women around the world are IN THE WORD! So let’s get our Wednesday link-up started!

Every Wednesday we will have a link-up. If you are a blogger we invite you to link-up any blog posts that you have written about your quiet time that week. We ask that you put our button in the post or on your sidebar so we can find each other.

{Week 11} Ministry of Motherhood Book Club: Ch 17 & 18

We only have 2 more weeks to go in our summer book club! I can’t believe we are starting our last gift……the Gift of Service.

Below are a few quotes from this week’s reading that I loved and had to share with you! My girls are 4 and 5 and teaching them to learn how to serve has already been important to me. This past year we’ve had some outdoor work done in our backyard so I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to teach my girls to serve others right here in my own home with me right beside them. Some days we’d just bring out a cold glass of water, while other days we’d surprise them and bring out lunch or dinner…..or maybe even a dessert. What we brought out to our guests didn’t matter as much as teaching my girls to look for another’s need and actively trying to meet that need.

What are some ways you are teaching your children to serve others? I’d love to hear your examples!

“He reached out to people not because they deserved his healing, restoring, and forgiving touch but because love had brought him here in the first place. Loving compassion- the heart of the Father lived out through the work of his beloved Son- was what gave his feet and hands and voice strength to reach out to so many.”- Sally Clarkson, pg 181

“Their mission was not to set up kingdoms of power on this earth but to live out the redemptive kindness of God in service to the needy and the downtrodden. This service of love is what would turn the world upside down.”- Sally Clarkson, pg 181

“And what good are all our efforts at raising children who love the Lord if we stop short of sending them out from our homes to bring God’s redemptive love to those who need it? Giving our children the gift of service means not just telling them that service is important but actually taking them with us and showing them how to serve….We must involve our family deeply in meeting needs if our children are ever going to understand that they were created to serve God by serving others.” - Sally Clarkson, pg 184

In today’s video Courtney and I discuss the importance of taking advantage of requests to pray with our children as well as seeing life’s tribulations as teaching opportunities to help our children in the midst of them learn to lean on Jesus and the wisdom He gives.

This week I have included a few more spiritual training resources that have been recommended to me to help assist and guide us as we point our children to Jesus. Please note all these resources are listed in addition to the ultimate 1st resource which is God’s Word.

{Week 9} Ministry of Motherhood Chapters 13 & 14 Commentary

This week we read the first two chapters (Ch 13 & 14) concerning the Gift of Training. In our video today, Courtney and I both share personal stories pertaining to those two chapters. Courtney discusses the need for Christian parenting vs. parenting that is focused on our children being socially acceptable. I LOVED what she had to say! One question to think about as you watch her portion is “Is my parenting focused on making my children ‘Good’ or is it focused on making my children more like Jesus?”

This week in our video I discuss a time when I was really hurt verbally and emotionally and how I had to choose to forgive and to train my mind not to replay the offense over and over again. Learning to take all our thoughts captive instead of allowing them free reign to continue to hurt us again and again is so important on our road to recovery and forgiveness. I loved what Sally said on page 153: “you can’t keep some bad thoughts from coming to your mind, but you can keep them from staying there.”

On Monday I asked “What some of your favorite training resources?” on our Facebook page. I was surprised and delighted with everyone’s response. Today I’d like to take the time and share some of those resources with you. Make sure to take a look at our Facebook page to see all the recommendations! Please note that these resources are listed in addition to the ultimate 1st resource….God’s Word.

(Listed in no particular order)

1. Doorposts

2. Seeds Family Worship- (I have two of their CDs that I play in the car with my girls and LOVE them!)

3. The Jesus Storybook Bible- (I read this to my girls every night and absolutely love how the stories all point back to Jesus!)

4. Answers In Genesis

5. Our 24 Family Ways- written by Clay Clarkson (Sally’s husband)

Please feel free to add to our list by commenting on our post today! We always love hearing from you!

On Monday we will have part 2 of Sally’s Gift of Training video! Can’t wait to share it with you!

Until next time…
