{Week 10} Are You Going to Heaven?

I LOVE this week’s passage because it answers the question:
How Can I Know if I’m going to Heaven?”

I remember sitting with an elderly woman long ago and talking about Jesus and my salvation. She looked hard at me and said “you mean to tell me at the age of 25 you can arrogantly say you are going to heaven?”

I could sense her disgust with me for saying such a thing - I nodded sheepishly and said – “yes mam, I John 5:12 says ‘He who has the Son has life; and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.’ I have placed my faith in Jesus and the Bible tells me I have eternal life.”

Have you ever been challenged by someone in the same way?  Our confidence in our salvation can be found in I John 5:12 – this is definitely one to commit to memory!

I John 5:13 continues to give us security – it goes on in the passage…

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.”

That’s it right there!  If you have repented of your sin and placed your faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God – you can KNOW without a shadow of a doubt – you have eternal life.

Randy Alcorn, the author of Best Seller Heaven, answered the question “How Can I Know I’m going to heaven?”:

Just for fun I thought I’d include another of Randy’s videos answering questions like:

Where is Heaven?  What’s the new heaven and new earth like?  What will our bodies be like?  And how do we grieve saved loved ones?

Doesn’t all this talk about eternal life excite you?  I can’t wait to see God face to face!!!  What a glorious day that will be!

Do Not Give Up ~ {Week 10} I John 5:1-12

A “life verse” is a verse or passage in the Bible that is significant to you. It may define your life, give you inspiration or direction, be something that you hang onto as you face difficult circumstances, or it could even be the passage of scripture that brought you to a belief in Jesus Christ.

My life verse is Galatians 6:9 which says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF we do not give up!”

This verse applies to every hard thing in life.
When I am weary of getting up early for my quiet time (or to blog) I remind myself “do not give up“.
When I’m tempted to be critical of my husband, I am reminded -”do not grow weary“.
When my children need disciplined over and over and over I am reminded “do not give up.”
When I grow weary in different aspects of serving at church I am reminded “do not give up”.
When I pray for lost loved ones year in and year out with no signs of change I am reminded “do not give up.”
This verse helps me to persevere when I am weary and want to give up – why? Because in time there will be a harvest – but only IF we do not give up!

I believe we need this verse today because we are on the homestretch of the fall session of Good Morning Girls. On Wednesday, December 15th, it comes to an end. Do not get weary now – finish strong!

So here’s our resource list for the week:

{Week 9} Sisterhood – Accepting Differences

Today I’m thrilled to have a guest post from a dear sweet friend – AND she’s a Good Morning Girl!!!!   This is Joy and I at The Relevant Conference just a few weeks ago – she flew all the way from Indonesia to speak there and it was a blessing to have her as a roomie!

Joy is the wife to a missionary pilot and they, along with their five kids, live in Indonesia.  Joy is a proud wife, blessed mommy, Diet Coke fanatic, runner, homeschooler, reader, thinker, home-maker, lover of nature, and most of all, an undeserving recipient of amazing grace, and grateful daughter of God.  Joy’s heart is to encourage women to revel in their job as mommy and wife, and to see it as good and needed work.  She shares her heart and life of being a mom with readers at her site, Grace Full Mama.

Here’s what Joy has to say about Sisterhood and Accepting Differences in the family of God.  This goes right along with this week’s study in I John 4 and loving one another well.

Joy writes…We are all different, we come from different place in the country and even the world. We have different backgrounds, goals, needs, and even beliefs. That doesn’t mean that we cannot live in true unity with one another.

Our team of MAF missionaries all come from different places and walks of life. We have had to learn to overlook some differences in one another for the higher purpose of living and working in unity. We live in a community that is not primarily Christian, and we feel so strongly that our testimony of unity in the body of Christ is important that we are willing to overlook the differences in one another.

I’m not saying that it is easy, but we work at it in order to promote the bonds of peace and the unity that only Christ can bring as we live and work and minister together.

Ephesians 4:2 says, “..with all humility and gentleness with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bonds of peace.”

Living in unity doesn’t mean that we agree with everyone else’s beliefs, it doesn’t even mean supporting beliefs that you strongly disagree with, but it does mean being willing to love the person behind the belief. And, if necessary, taking your concern in conficence to that particular person. Matthew 18:15 says, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.” Sometimes the most loving thing we can do when we disagree with someone is to love them enough to speak the truth in love, but behind closed doors.

We have to be willing to stand for truth, but to do so in love and with grace. And when we feel that one of us is straying, loving that person enough to come alongside of them, to have the hard conversation, to seek truth together, instead of speaking ill of them.

We need to have the courage to speak to one another, instead of about one another.

True unity isn’t agreeing with everyone on everything. It isn’t always getting along and never having conflict. True unity is working through the mess together, not giving up on one another, and spurring one another on in love and truth. And, there are certainly times where love means quietly stepping back from a friendship, if there is a true impasse. BUT, continuing to love the person and staying committed to their ultimate good.

Think for a minute: Is there someone that you have wronged in this area? Perhaps you have been so intent on standing for truth, you forgot to do it in love? Or maybe there is someone who really rubs you the wrong way and you have spoken ill of them either online or behind the scenes. If so, you may want to think of asking that person’s forgiveness.

Ephesians 4:31-32 encourages us to, “ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ has forgiven you.”

{Week 9} WIWW Link-Up Party

A few weeks ago I introduced you to my Good Morning Girls group, today I’d like to introduce you to Megan and her GMG group! (Seriously….can those kids get any cuter!!!) ;)

I am a mommy to two little ones and life is busy! Time in the Word had become rare and when I opened my Bible I wasn’t sure what to read. I would read a verse here and there but nothing consistent. Then my friend and I decided to take the plunge and walk through 1 John together with your Good Morning Girls site. We invited a few more friends to join the journey with us. We formed the Busy Momma’s GMG group on Facebook so that we would all have a convenient place to “check in” each day and share insight, questions, and prayer requests with one another. Overall we have 14 women in our group and it’s a HUGE blessing! The accountability spurs me on each morning and the various points of view and application of scripture to our lives is priceless! It’s also great to have a group of ladies who are like-minded and who will pray for one another’s needs.

I look forward to getting into the Word of God every day and building precept upon precept. I am so very encouraged by my GMG group!

Thank you Angela and Courtney for giving us the opportunity to connect and be challenged!

Have a blessed week!

Thank you so much Megan for sharing your beautiful group with all of us! It blesses me so much to actually be able to see you and your adorable kiddos! Now when I pray over the women involved in Good Morning Girls, I’ll see your faces. :)

If you would like to share your GMG group with the rest of the Good Morning Girls community, please email me at: LoveGodGreatly@gmail.com

I’d LOVE to showcase you as well!

(Week 9} 1 John 4:7-21 God’s Love and Ours

This week we will be reading about God’s love toward us and how we are to express that love to others. I recently found this video clip of a young woman who brought me to tears. She is an inspiration to me and I hope to you as well.

(If you can’t see this video- click here.)

I wanted to be like her when I was younger. I wanted to go off to another country and make a BIG difference for God just like she is in Uganda. Unlike Katie though I wasn’t as brave….or maybe it wasn’t God’s will, but either way I LOVE the difference she is making in those children’s lives. Whether abroad or in our own country, we can ALL make a BIG difference for God. Where I’ve had to confess to God this week is in my fear of not trying. Between you and me, I hate to FAIL! Absolutely hate it! I hate it so much that it paralyzes me into not stepping out on faith because of my fear that I won’t do well. It kills me when I disappoint people. Have you ever been like that?

I took a mission trip to the Ukraine my Junior year in high school and I remember coming back from that trip and saying to myself, “From now on I’m going to trust God more with my life! I’m going to give God more opportunities to really work through me so that I can see Him more and so others can see Him through me.” Of course “life” happened when I came back and well here I am now (I won’t say how many years later…hehehe) happily married and blessed with 3 precious little girls……and yet I still have that same desire in my heart. I want to trust God more with the life He has given me. I still want to make that BIG difference for Him….and I don’t want to be afraid anymore. I want to love others. I want to love the family, friends and neighbors He has given me the way He tells me to: to love others as though they were me. I think I might have some changes I need to make in my life…..I know I need to pray about the HOW God wants me to reach out more, but I know that He does. I’ll keep you posted as to my progress.:)
