Glorify God With Our Dirt!

We need to glorify God with our “dirt”.

Sounds like a crazy statement doesn’t it? I’ve actually been thinking about this a lot lately. Maybe it’s because as I’m getting older, I’m realizing how sinful I truly am. Or maybe its because I’m a mother training my two young daughters to love God and learn the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong. As I guide/instruct/correct them, I feel God guiding/instructing/correcting me. Whatever the case, I’ve been thinking about my mistakes, my unforgiveness, my impatience at times…….my sin, my “dirt.”

I’ve also been thinking about how as Christians we feel so much pressure sometimes to be perfect. To look perfect, to act perfect, to be the perfect wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Sadly some of us go to church feeling like we have to continue our “everything is perfect” disguise. We don’t allow others to see “our dirt”, our sins, our struggles. If anyone does have a past…….a past that was far from God, they don’t feel like sharing it because what would all the “perfect” people think?

We need to get back to the basics at times. What is truly our life purpose? To bring glory to God! If we don’t allow others to see how dirty and sin saturated our past use to be…we are robbing God of His glory. If we don’t allow others to see how far God has brought us, the change He has made in our lives…..then we are robbing God of His glory.

Not only are we robbing God of His glory, but we are also robbing others of hope. Hope that God can make a difference in their lives because of what they have seen Him do in ours.

There is a purpose in our dirty sin stained lives, the purpose is to bring glory to God by coming to Him and allowing Him to cleanse us. Though our sins were like scarlet, God can wash us as white as snow…….some of my favorite lyrics. As we allow God to cleanse us, we bring Him glory through the transformation of our lives. Next time you feel tempted to hide your past, realize that your past is what brings God glory.

God grows beautiful lives out of “dirt”.
