Countdown to Luke ~ Equipping you to lead…

Good Morning Girls!!  We are on the countdown, ladies: just ONE short week away from kicking off our Winter Study Session: Living Like Jesus {Luke 1-8}!  The GMG Facebook page and Message Board are buzzing with all kinds of energy and excitement as we welcome new GMG, answer your questions, and encourage leaders as you prepare!  This week our goal is to keep that excitement building, while equipping you every day with some helpful information as we get ready to dive into God’s Word together!
Have you ever considered leading a GMG group, but just needed that extra nudge of encouragement?
Then today’s guest post is for you!  Read on as Shonda, our Leadership Encourager, shares about her experience as a GMG leader, and explains how GMG is in the business of encouraging and equipping GMG just like YOU to become leaders too!

“Hello, my name is Shonda and I am part of the GMG Leadership Team.  Let me share my story with you.  Two years ago I was pregnant with my second child.  I was craving a Bible study that would help me dig deep into God’s Word and one where I wouldn’t have to leave my house.  I kept seeing Courtney from Women Living Well post about Good Morning Girls.  The day I took a peek was the day they revealed the new study for January- the book of James!  I was intrigued that Courtney said we would be writing out the whole book during the course of the study.  I found a group through the Message Board, and before I knew it, I stumbled upon an opportunity to lead the group!  I have led our group through several Good Morning Girls studies since then.  Though group dynamics are ever changing, the studies have been wonderful, and with God’s help, I feel stronger and more confident about leading these girls with each new GMG study.”

{Shonda’s GMG group from the Proverbs 31 study}

“God knew I needed Him to help me lead, and God continues to be faithful!  Last year, Angela opened up a Good Morning Girls Leadership Group on Facebook.  I joined, and by the Fall, the leadership group had grown so big, Angela asked me to help lead it!  Wow, I was so amazed at how God kept challenging me to step up in my role as a leader.  So, now I still lead my own GMG group, and I also help the leaders organize their groups and answer questions.  It’s a joy and delight to work with so many awesome women of God.  I have developed some great friendships and grown in my walk with God all because I was willing to take steps of faith.”

A leader is someone who is willing to serve.  God can use YOU in a mighty way if you are just open to his calling.  There are so many women who want to study the Bible with Good Morning Girls, but they need a guide.  A leader is not someone who is a Biblical scholar, but someone who is passionate about God.  A leader is interested in the seeking to draw women out and encourage them to pursue God.  A leader is prayerful and sacrificial.  A leader listens to God and is a life-giver.  Does this describe you?  Are you open to step out in faith and lead a group?  If you are unsure, please pray and read about all the ways you do not have to do this alone!  We are a team!

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said,

“Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last,

and the servant of all.”

~Mark 9:35

Here’s what our leaders are saying about the GMG Leadership group on Facebook… we know you’ll be encouraged!

“The leader’s group is a life saver!  All the helpful hints, getting
the scripture pictures to post ahead of time… AWESOME!! When I led my
first group, I was so nervous, but the support here is tremendous!!!  I think
all active leaders should be in this group! Thank you for this group!!!”  ~Martha

“If it weren’t for this Leader’s Group, I would have given up before I even got started. I like that I can come here at any time and get information, encouragement and answers. Being a part of this group has given me the courage and inspiration to go on.”  ~Cindy

“The leader group has wonderful women to quickly answer any and all
questions I have. It has great ideas and fun tips for your group along
with pictures to post that grab your group members’
attention. My group wouldn’t be nearly as successful if I hadn’t joined the
leadership group.” ~Nikki

“I love all the extra information for leaders, and with your guidance, I really sounded like I knew what I was doing! : ) The ladies in my group were truly moved by the study and it brought us all closer together and most importantly, closer to God.”  ~Lindsay

“This group is kind of a springboard for positive encouragement.  As I
am encouraged here, it bounces to my group and from those individuals on
to others and so on!! I would absolutely recommend this group as a new
leader!!” ~Stephanie

There is so much we offer in the Facebook leadership group as you see above, such as prayer, answering questions, special photos to share with your group, encouragement, fun and SO much more!

Different countries but same purpose: A GMG Testimony

Yesterday I shared the beautiful testimony of my dear friend, Edurne, who is our Spanish GMG Translator. Today I’m happy to share with you Trisha’s testimony and how God used Trisha and Edurne, two women living in different countries, to form GMG Spanish!

Trisha has been a HUGE blessing to me personally! Not only does she help Edurne with the GMG Spanish groups, but she also leads our GMG International group, helps out in our GMG Leadership group, and creates some of the beautiful graphics our groups use!!! Trisha is truly a woman of MANY talents and I’m soooo blessed to have her serve along side of me! I love her heart and how she is always willing to help others!

Today as I celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, I’m thanking God for placing Edurne, Trisha, Shonda, Courtney, Jen, Whitney, Amanda, Katja, Rosilind, Erica, September (the GMG Team) and YOU in my life!

TOGETHER God is using us to encourage women around the WORLD to be in His Word and apply what they are learning to their lives!

I love that we are women who not only read God’s Word together, but encourage each other to put God’s Word into action as we live our lives for HIS GLORY!

Thanking God for EACH ONE OF YOU TODAY!!!

This is my testimony of how God has used Good Morning Girls to form a friendship between 2 missionary women for one purpose…Good Morning Girls Spanish!

In April 2012, I read about Good Morning Girls (GMG) Bible study and decided to sign up for their summer study on Proverbs 31. I looked for an International group on the message board, but found nothing. I really wanted to study in Spanish, to get out of my comfort zone and study God’s Word deeper in Spanish, but the materials weren’t available in Spanish. That is until May 10th, 2012, when Angela (leader of GMG) did a blog post and said that the Proverbs 31 Bible study had been translated into 3 other languages – Spanish being one of them! So, I immediately wrote Edurne, who translated the Spanish materials, and asked if she would be willing to lead a group in Spanish and I would co-lead with her.  Well, she said, “Yes!”

Now, after only a few months of working together, Edurne is my friend, sister, and mentor!  I am very blessed to have her in my life. Lord-willing someday, we will have the opportunity to meet each other, if not here on earth, then definitely in Heaven!

Thanks to the ministry of Good Morning Girls, Edurne (from Spain and serving in Venezuela) and I (from the United States and serving in Paraguay), are the Good Morning Girls Spanish team, working together to make the Bible study materials available for all Spanish-speaking women, so that they can have the opportunity to grow in their walk with the Lord through accountability Facebook groups.

Meet Trisha-

Hi, I’m Trisha Goddard. I serve God with my husband, Mike in Paraguay. We have 3 children: Michael, Lea, and Kaleb. As a couple, there are three important areas that we want to invest our lives: our daily relationship with God, our family, and serving the Lord in ministry!

God Is Still In The Miracle Business…A GMG Testimony

I was always fascinated with the TV show “Heroes” even though I didn’t watch it much, maybe 2 or 3 times, but the idea behind it always intrigued me. The show was about these ordinary people who happened to have special powers . Some could fly. Some could travel through time. Some had incredible strength……all were specially gifted in a certain area and when they worked together…..they were able to accomplish a “greater good.”

Isn’t that a beautiful picture of the body of Christ? This is our reality when we work together as one! God has gifted each of us in special ways, and when we work together with the same focus…..we are able to advance His kingdom!

Romans 12:4

“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

This past week I introduced you to some of my personal heroes. At first glance you might think they are just ordinary women……but remember…..it’s through the ordinary that God does the extraordinary!

These women are moms, wives, “taxi” drivers, teachers and cooks by day……but God has blessed them with powerful gifts He is using to CHANGE OUR WORLD. Yes, they might seem ordinary at first glance……but don’t be fooled…they are modern day heroes in our midst!

Why do I consider them heroes? It’s not because of what they can do themselves, in their own strength, but because of what they are allowing God to do THROUGH THEM! :) HE is the source. He is the gift giver.

It’s their obedience to His calling on their lives that makes them heroes to me.

What makes a Hero?
Anyone who willingly uses the gifts she has been given from God to put others first and advance God’s Kingdom. Anyone who says, “Your will not my will, Lord” and walks in obedience having heaven as her focus as she raises the next generation for Christ, loves her husband, serves and reaches out to the least and cares for her neighbors as herself. An individual like this is a hero because her focus is on God and serving others…..the two greatest commandments.

This past week I shared on the importance of having our Good Morning Girls materials translated. For the next two days, I’d like to share the impact having these materials translated has made in various women’s lives across the WORLD! Let me first introduce you to my dear friend and GMG Translator: Edurne.

Edurne blesses us by translating all our documents into Spanish! Because of Edurne’s ability to translate, God has used her special skill to reach THOUSANDS of women! New women are being added to GMG Spanish EVERY HOUR! Some of the ladies who ask to be in a group are forming other groups at their churches and will be using the Advent eBook for their women’s Bible study. There are women studying the Bible with GMG in ALL South American countries and in almost every country from Central America to the Caribbean!!!

All these women’s lives are being changed because ONE women decided to spend her “free” time translating materials so that other women can learn more about God!

Edurne’s story reminds me that Jesus is still in the miracle business. He can still take our “loaves of bread and fish”….the few extra hours we have each night, and multiply it to “feed the thousands!!!”

Let me tell you a story…

A few months ago, by accident, I discovered the Facebook page of WomenLivingWell.org, who offered her subscribers a free e-book called “The Proverbs 31 Woman – one virtue at a time” I subscribed, downloaded the e-book, and the first thing I thought of, like I always do when I find good material, was to translate it into Spanish. I contacted the author, Courtney Joseph, to ask permission to translate it, and she gave me permission to do just that. And a short time later, Courtney told me about another page, GoodMorningGirls.org, of her friend Angela Perritt and told me how they would be using the book to do a 3 month Bible study.

I registered for the Bible study and put an announcement on my Facebook page, mainly to let other English speakers know about the e-book and the Bible study.

Then, I receive this message through Facebook saying “Do you want to form a Spanish group? I want to be a part!” I had never thought about starting a Spanish group, because I didn’t think anyone would be interested, but I said to myself “Ok, she and I are a group.” The message came from Trisha Goddard, my friend “ameriguaya”.
So because of this decision to start a Spanish group with Trisha for the Proverbs 31 study, we got the information out via Facebook to all of our friends, and through this, many Latin women became interested. From that, the 1st GMG Spanish group was created, with more than 40 women from different parts of the world, participating day after day, studying God’s Word! This very vibrant, unified, lively group had a hunger for God’s Word. It continues even now, and from this group came the majority of the leaders for the new GMG Spanish groups for the Colossians/Advent Bible study.

After some time of getting to know Trisha, I have found that we have a lot in common: both of us are wives, have 3 children, a passion for missions (Trisha and her husband, Mike, are Americans and serve in Paraguay), and a huge desire to help others grow in the Lord. We have never met in person, and I don’t know the sound of her voice, but during these few months that I have known her, she has become my friend, my support, one that I can count on, my coworker in the ministry, and prayer warrior. Together, we are taking on this dream and overseeing GMG Spanish.

How is this possible? How is it possible to have people who don’t know each other, work together and serve the Lord in ministry?

Because we are the body. And now that isn’t just any “body”! We are THE body.

We are THE body of Christ.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”

Ephesians 1:22-23

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

The body of Christ is the universal church that every believer is a part of, regardless of their local church denomination. It is a live organism, made up of born again believers and whose Head is the Resurrected Christ. This is the body that allows people like Trisha, me, Courtney, Angela….and YOU, to have a common ground that we can share and develop our gifts and talents for the glory of God.

Romans 12:4-5

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

We are one body, sharing…
…the same faith (Colossians 1:4)
…the same love (Colossians1:4)
…the same hope (Colossians 1:5)

My spiritual growth has been tremendously impacted through the ministry of Good Morning Girls, ladies who are a part of the body of Christ. Each day, as I study the one-two verses, it has helped me to dig into the Scripture – by studying it more in detail, to enjoy its richness, and to find ways to make it practical in my daily life.

Good Morning Girls has given me the opportunity to know other godly women, who too want to grow in their walk with the Lord, and we have formed a friendship of love that goes beyond the computer screen…

…because we are THE body.

You’ve heard Edurne’s story! Now it’s your turn…..how are you going to use the gift’s God has given you to change the world for Him?

God has gifted you in a special way too! Maybe it’s in raising the next generation for God’s glory! Maybe it’s through loving the least.

Whatever God is calling you to do…….go and do it!!!

The number of people you reach doesn’t matter…..what does matter is the one thing YOU can control….your obedience to His call!

WE are cheering YOU ON!!!

What God is doing in Croatia: A GMG Testimony

Sometimes in life you have to just sit back and be in awe with how God is working in and through your life…..today is one of those days for me. I never in my wildest dreams would have thought GMG would go to the nations…..but that is exactly what God is doing! I am sooo blessed, honored and humbled that He using GMG to encourage women around the world to be in His Word!

Today I’d like to introduce you to my sweet friend, Rosilind! She and her friend, Dajana, translated all our Proverbs 31 documents into Croatian for us!

This is her testimony today!

Good Morning Croatia and Bosnia!

It was the fall of 2010 when I stumbled upon this blog: Good Morning Girls. I had been searching for an online Bible Study for a few years and had been unsuccessful in finding one that I felt really ministered and encouraged me. I decided to join up.  And that first session was wonderful!  And since then I have taken part in their studies each season.

Late last year I began praying about starting a Croatian/Bosnian chapter of Good Morning Girls.  I really felt God placing it on my heart. I have a real desire to reach out to women, and this would be a great way of reaching out to women that fit perfectly with my family’s unusual lifestyle and schedule.

But I didn’t know how I’d go about it or if anyone would even be interested.

I wondered how I’d share my deeply personal, spiritual thoughts in a foreign language or if anyone would even understand what I was trying to say.

I put some feelers out there last year to see if anyone might be interested and didn’t get much of a response.  I decided that it wasn’t time yet.

That this was God’s way of saying: wait.

But in April I decided to try again. And this time the response was totally different! 14 ladies have joined up from Croatia, Bosnia and even America (Croatians and Bosnians are everywhere!!).

And I proceeded to translate the materials into Croatian.  It was my first undertaking of this proportion.  I have translated small things here and there, but nothing this large (a 42-page e-book!).

I had no sooner started when Andrej got sick and was in the hospital for a week…
…and the project got put on hold.

I hit so many roadblocks in getting the translation done – and there were times I was tempted to give up.

But I knew that:
1. I had given my word and I committed to keeping it
2. The enemy would do all he could to keep me from doing what He put on my heart to do
and most of all..
3. God had placed this on my heart – and would give me the strength and grace to finish and finish well!

And I finish I did.

And a good friend of mine, and author of Daya, edited it for me. And we finished on time!!!

I have realized that God is way bigger than the limitations we place on ourselves by saying, “What if…”, “I can’t…”, or “I’ve never done that before.”

If we are willing to take a step of faith and leap into the new things He has for us, He’ll give us the grace and strength to fulfill His will.

I am so excited to bond with these ladies through God’s Word!  I pray that He will be glorified through this wonderful group of women!

Good Morning Girls has officially come to  Croatia and Bosnia!

Dobro jutro djevojke!

If you are living in Croatia or Bosnia and would like to participate or if you are a Croatian or Bosnian living abroad and would like to participate, we have a Facebook and email group.  Let me know and I’ll add you!

Thank you sooo very much, Rosilind for sharing your GMG testimony with us today! I pray that God will bless your group and that many women will come to know God’s Word through your obedience to His call on your life! Thank you for stepping out in faith and inviting other women to join you!
