FAQ

Q: How do I get started?

1. Please read and agree with the GMG Statement of Belief.

2. Subscribe to our blog. Don’t forget to click to activate your subscription! Links for your study materials will be included at the end of the GMG emails.

3. Register your participation by enrolling with GMG here:

4. Like the GMG FB page here. {This one is optional.}

5. If you would like to join a group, you’re welcome to form your own, or find one here.
{Joining a group is optional, but encouraged.}

Q: What is the difference between subscribing to the Good Morning Girls blog and enrolling for the study? Do I need to do both?

A: The Good Morning Girls create the reading plan and provide the materials. Subscribing to their blog has the GMG blog posts delivered to your email inbox and links for materials are provided at the end of each email. This needs only to be done once.

Enrolling for the study is just like signing up for a Bible study at your church. It’s a head count and gives GMG some demographics so they know who is participating in their studies. This needs to be done for each study in which you participate.

It is requested by GMG that all ladies who are doing their studies take these steps.

Q: I was expecting the study guide to be more of a devotional. Is it necessary to print it out for this study?

A: No. The study guide just has a place to record all your thoughts for the study, and it is already broken down into the daily readings. You may use a journal, lined notebook, or even your computer if you wish to save paper. If you choose to print it, you can keep it together in a binder or have it coil bound at an office supply store.

Q: Will everyone on my friends list be able to see in their news feeds when I post my SOAPs, insights, or prayer requests?

A: No. Your posts in this group will only appear in someone else’s news feed if they are already currently your friend AND they are a member of the group. Group security is set to “Secret”. This is what FB says about this setting: “Non-members can’t find these groups in searches or see anything about the group, including its name and member list. The name of the group will not display on the timelines of members. To join a secret group, you need to be added by a member of the group.” Please use discretion about sharing extremely personal details, though, since anything posted on FB still belongs to FB.

Q: What does it mean to SOAP? How do I do it properly?

A: There is no right or wrong way to SOAP. Check out this blog post for more details.

The basic premise, however, is the following:

S- The S stands for Scripture- you physically write out the scripture……you’ll be amazed at what God will reveal to you just by taking the time to slow down and actually write out what you are reading!

O- The O stands for observation- what do you see in the verses that you’re reading. Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you?

A- The A stands for Application- this is when God’s Word becomes personal. What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my own personal life? What changes do I need to make? Is there an action that I need to take?

P- And finally, P stands for Prayer. Pray God’s Word back to Him. If He has revealed something to you during this time in His Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life.

Q: Life got a little crazy for me; now I am discouraged because I’m behind and I find it intimidating to catch up. Should I just leave the group?

A: No! If I can encourage you: you will get more from the study the more involved you are. I know it isn’t always easy to be vulnerable in a group like this, and for some of us, it is easier to ‘speak’ up than it is for others. If you are apprehensive, remember a few things:

1. Everyone here is here to grow in God. None of us are perfect. We all need Him and His strength.

2. You do not have to be eloquent or long winded.

3. The Holy Spirit is at work in each of you… You may have something to say that God wants someone else to hear- please don’t hold back!

I also realize that life happens around and often before our study. Please do not feel an obligation to our group, but see that the accountability will help you grow in God. Commit yourself to being here once a day and checking in. If life happens and you don’t, there is no guilt or shame. Start fresh with a new commitment to be here tomorrow, and the next day, and….etc.

Q: You have asked us to set goals for this study. What kinds of things should my goals be for?

A: Your goals can be relating to anything in your spiritual life. Any habits you desire to pursue, attitudes you wish to change, areas to grow in, the way you interact with others, and so on. You should also add specific goals that you hope to reach through the study itself. Evaluate your goals mid-way through the study by asking yourself, “Is what I’m doing right now related to reaching the goal I have?” If you can answer positively, then you know you’re on the right track.

Q: Can I invite some friends to study with me?

A: Absolutely!! You should give them the following information for them to pray over before adding them to the group: What we are studying, the commitment (eg. 8 weeks with at least one check-in per week, but with the intent of checking in daily M-F), and a basic explanation of how to SOAP. If you have studied with us before, share your experience and why you think they would benefit from joining.
