You Are Loved- Week 5: You Can Trust Him

Week 5 Blog Header

Little did I know what God was up to 20 plus years ago when I felt like my world was falling apart. From my limited perspective, all I saw was destruction. All I felt was pain and fear. “What now…” filled my mind as my parent’s divorce was finalized at the end of my 3rd grade year. That summer, my mom, brother and I moved to a rural farming community in Indiana near my grandparents, away from the airbase where we had called home for the past few years. It seemed as though my world was falling apart and I couldn’t find God anywhere. I couldn’t feel Him. I couldn’t see Him. My prayers kept going unanswered and I was sure He had stopped listening because now we were broken….and no one wants something that is broken….not even God.

Though I didn’t know it at the time, God was actually VERY active in my life building something in the MIDST of pain, heartache, fear and broken dreams. Why is it that we feel God moves away from us during those times in our lives? When we are at our lowest? When marriages fall apart? When test results comeback for the worst? When hopes and dreams are shattered?

We may feel unlovable but God doesn’t see us that way. We must remember Christ died for us when we were still sinners, (Romans 5:8) when we didn’t have our act together….and on that point, never will. He choose to love us in spite of our sins, our short comings….our messed-up brokenness.

That’s want I hope you see through this week’s story. When my life felt like it was at it’s worst, God was actually working at His best.

flower

And that’s exactly what He did.

What God allowed years ago when I was a little girl, through pain and heartache, He is now redeeming and bringing purpose and beauty out of it. God allowed the hurt, because He saw a greater good emerging from the ashes of broken homes and broken dreams. I have learned to trust God because I have seen Him work in my life in amazing ways.- Angela Perritt, You Are Loved

Many times though, we don’t always feel His presence in the midst of the brokenness. It’s not until we have traveled through the storm that we realize Jesus was actually with us each step of the way. That’s where our trust comes into play.

Now that I’m on the other side, I have to tell you I am forever grateful God did not rescue me immediately from the pain, disappointment and heartache I had to travel. Why? Because that experience grew my faith and my relationship with Jesus emerged stronger because of it.

Sweet friends, God loves us but He doesn’t want us to stay weak in our faith. It’s through hard days, trials and tribulations that we grow our spiritual muscles.

Can I encourage you in this today? There is a purpose for what you are walking through. You may not see it just now. You may feel God has left you. But He hasn’t……He has promised He never will (Deut. 31:8) and God NEVER breaks His promises. Continue to cling to Jesus. Dig into God’s Word and seek Him before anyone else. Remember you have a limited perspective and can’t see how God is using your current situation to one day….maybe even 20 some years from now, bring beauty out of the ashes!!!

Listen today to this week’s video to hear the amazing story of how God worked in my life so many years ago and how this story even touches your life today!!!

  1. Again, Angela, I loved this chapter!! !! I love your words and your heart in this chapter! I can look back at the trials in my life now and see God’s hand. We have had a lot of trails come at us during our marriage that looking back God was teaching us trust Him. During our trials we can draw close to Him or run from Him. It’s up to us. I am so grateful for this community!

    • So true Heather. He draws us closer to Him during trials. During trials it’s easy to feel desperate and eager to find a way out, but as we go through them we seek Him and He pulls us closer.
      Blessings,

    • Ohhh thank you so much, Heather! Isn’t God just amazing….that He can take something so painful and turn it into something so beautiful! That’s what I hope our women get from this week’s chapter…..that many times, beautiful testimonies are birthed out of pain. We need to cling to Jesus and press on as He guides us through the pain to the other side!! :) Thanks so much Heather for joining us!!!:)

  2. Just wondering if your mothers were still friends :)

    • Great question, Edwena! They are, they just don’t get to see each other that much…..it’s really been their daughters who have continued the life long friendships….I actually just saw Stephanie, (Whitney’s sister) last week!! :)

  3. This chapter is so timely for me; I struggle with over thinking things and trusting God to really just take care of everything. I have seen time again in my life how He has taken care of my family and of me, I have seen answers to prayers I wasn’t even aware I was praying at the time and yet here I am again in a new season and still struggling to fully trust God and to let go of my hurt. Sally talked last week about giving everything to God and letting Him work and now this weeks stories…LOL I guess God is giving me that neon sign of “Trust me, I Love you as you are and I will take care of you” Thank you so much for sharing your hearts and your stories.

    • He does have a way of helping us see that we must trust Him, right? :o) When we’re in the midst of trials, it’s hard to let go and trust – it’s just the nature of our flesh to want to be in control. But when we do, we find peace in the midst of chaos.
Thank you for stopping by today, Tina!! :o)
      Blessings,
      Marlene

    • Ohhh I just love it Tina, when God does that! I know it’s hard, but that’s why it’s so important to record how God has worked in our lives in the past so that we can be encouraged that He will indeed get us through our present struggle. :) That’s why it’s so important to first remember that God loves us as we face new trials.

  4. So thankful you shared your story. God has showed Himself faithful over and over in my life (even when I wasn’t) and now that He has brought thru many really hard trials, I know He can redeem them by using them to grow my faith and minister to others in trials that were similar or just really hard also. What Satan would use to steal, kill and destroy, our God uses for our good and his glory.

    • Amen Rhonda! “What Satan would use to steal, kill and destroy, our God uses for our good and His glory.” <—- yes! Genesis 50:20 " As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."
      Blessings,

    • Amen, Rhonda!!! :)

  5. Thank you. This is just what I needed today. We’ve been walking through some tough stuff recently, and your words today spoke directly to my heart. God’s goodness and grace. I’m grateful!

    • Shawnelle,
Thank you for being here with us Shawnelle! Lifting you up in prayer as you walk through this season of life.
