Advent {Love} Week 2

Week 2- Advent Blog Post Header

Welcome back to our 2nd week of our 4 week Advent series: Keeping Our Hearts Focused on Jesus!

We are so glad to have you joining us for a second round! This week we are talking about Love….

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

-1 John 9-10-

There is sacrifice in love. We see this in delivery rooms as mothers give birth to their precious babies through pain that is mixed with the love in their hearts. This mixture of love and sacrifice God knows very well. He did the same for us that very first Christmas over 2,000 years ago. He sent Jesus into the world not because we loved Him, but because He loved us. Jesus willingly came to be the Rescuer, to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins….because of His love.

Are you feeling unlovable today? Are you feeling broken, tired or forgotten?

Embrace Jesus this Advent. Slow down this week, spend time with the One who laid down His life for you.

He came because of His love.

Week 2: Challenge

This week express your love by slowing down and intentionally giving the gift of your time to those God has placed in your life. Take time to write that special handwritten letter….personal, heartfelt letters like that make wonderful, priceless Christmas presents that don’t hurt the gift-giving budget. This week, make time for sitting a little longer around the dinner table to engage in conversations. Make cookies with your kids, surprise a relative or friend who is house bound and needs some encouragement. Intentionally look people in the eyes this week and speak a word of love or encouragement to that individual.

Share with us how you are intentionally loving others this week! We can’t wait to hear!

  1. So true; we cannot love without His strength. This week, I will make an effort to call a friend who now is going through a very tough time. Thank you for reminder to give love, just as Christ has given us His love by dying on the cross for our sins.

    • Oh those phone calls are so important….especially in a day when we do so much communicating via text messages, emails……I LOVE hearing the voices of my friends and family. I know it takes more time and effort…..but it’s so worth it:) I know your phone call will be such an encouragement to her, Iris!:)

  2. Marilyn A. Cruz says:

I showed Jesus love this Christmas season in our Children’s Ministry by sharing my collections of my Children’s study bible to teach the Children in my Church about Jesus…Glory to God for giving me the talents and abilities to serve him by putting my name in the schedule to facilitate the class.

    • Thank you so much, Marilyn for serving the families in your church in this way! It really does make a huge difference to the children as well as their parents!:)

  3. This weekend I sat down with the kids and helped them make gingerbread houses and then next day we spent the day baking and decorating sugar cookies. I love having the kids in the kitchen with me. This week I plan to write a letter to each woman in my group.

    • Ohhh Kim! Some of my favorite Christmas memories as a child are making cookies in the kitchen with my mom!!! I LOVE doing that with my girls, too!:) And a personal letter to the women in your group…..that’s so nice of you! Thank you for so intentionally investing in their lives!:)

  4. sheila payne says:

Thank you for not editing out the part about difficult family members.I struggle with my sister in law every year. I hate how that taints every family gathering. I needed the encouragement. I think I will not let her be an issue every time and fail almost every time.

  5. I meet with a group of ladies once a month , most of us are Asian Indian, plus English…..a mixture of faiths…..I am taking one of the younger women to the midnight Christmas Eve service, as she wants to know what Christians do…..believe…she is Hindu……same as my family…..thru the year I have supported and helped her, shown her love and care having her in my home and being a bigger sister to her…….am also taking one of the others who is Sikh background………to hear about The Jesus who came for them……….

  6. The years were flowing. My husband shows his love the same way yours does and I take him for granted way too many times. Think I’ll focus some of my energy this week on showing him I love him. “For where God is, there is love.”

  7. That should be “The TEARS were flowing…” My auto correct misread my mind.

  8. Debby burke says:

This morning I called a friend that I have been out of touch with and as she was sharing I kept thinking, she needs prayer. Instead of hanging up as our conversation died down, I prayed with her. Encouraging for her and for me!

  9. My husband and I received a call today from his cousin whom we had not talked to for several months. She told us that she decided to call while making out her Christmas cards. It was such a blessing to receive her call out of the blue and even more so since hubby has not been well.

  10. I really wanted to be intentional this Christmas season to give and love. I’ve been distant from a good friend and I intentionally let her know I am there for her as she is going through some medical issues. I’ve looked for opportunities to give, donating food to food pantry and donating some used kids jackets I have that will go to the homeless. It’s small things but it’s been good to reach out to others knowing I am blessed with much.
