Psst…Word of Mouth Sharing

Pssst … Word of Mouth Sharing

I must have been only 10 or 11-years-old when I sat at our church’s Christmas party and listened to the out-of-town visitors speak. They looked like your average family with a mom, dad, and three kids. They’d recorded a record (I’m dating myself!), and were traveling around the United States, telling their story. I don’t remember anything about their music, but their story has stuck with me. The woman with long, beautiful hair once had her head shaved and was part of a cult. The man—clean cut and kind now—had been involved in drugs and was once a long-haired hippie. Then, individually, someone told them about Jesus. When they were on their last ounce of will, Jesus transformed everything. Close to death because of their habits and suicidal thoughts, Jesus gave them a new life.

After Jesus’ resurrection in Luke 24 God used Word of Mouth to get the good news out!

The angels told the women. The women told the eleven disciples and all the others. Then Peter ran and saw for himself.

Next, Jesus appeared to two of his followers when they were on their way to a village called Emmaus. And it wasn’t until those two men got up, returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven and told them that Jesus showed up in person. By the time he arrived the Eleven had heard it from three other sources. Can you imagine the build up … and the excitement when they finally witnessed His presence for themselves?

Then, what did Jesus tell them? “… repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high,” (Luke 24:47-49).

Just as they heard about Jesus’ resurrection and the fulfillment of Scriptures (by word of mouth), so were they to share it. Of course, Jesus wasn’t going to leave them alone in their task. He promised to clothe them with power from on high.

Has Jesus transformed your life? Maybe your testimony isn’t as dramatic as the couple I first spoke of, but your story—how Jesus showed up to you—makes a difference. God could have chosen many ways to get the word out, but He chose ME and YOU.

Today pray about someone who you can share your Jesus-story with. It’ll make a difference. Their lives might be transformed next, and you’ll find yourself walking in the power from on high that Jesus promises!

  1. I just found your website by accident and it is an answer to prayer. I am looking for a daily reading plan that I can do outside of my ladies bible study workbook. We are doing “simply Jesus”, and your Living like Jesus study parallels mine. Perfect! Since I don’t have the workbook, I will be journaling my notes. I will play catch up, since I don’t want to miss out on your next study. By the way, how will I find that out?

    • Rhonda, if you subscribe to the blog, you will get the free study guide in your email to download. Also please check out our section under ‘Studies’ – you will find the previous Luke studies we did and there is a study guide with those as well, free to download. In a couple weeks we have an upcoming study for Thanksgiving (Gratitude) and then Advent. Blessings, Martha
