This week we are up to Luke 19 in our reading and we start with the story of Zacchaeus.
I’ve heard this story time and again since I was a little girl in Sunday School. But this week – I was touched with how Jesus looked up in the tree at Zacchaeus and before Zacchaeus could say a word – Jesus knew his name!
Jesus said in verse 5 “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
Your name – isn’t it nice when someone remembers your name. Our name is precious to each one of us. Many sacrifice their morals and values to make their name known- to see their name in lights or on the cover of a magazine.
But dear reader – you are precious to Jesus – you do not have to do anything to get his attention. He already knows your name and loves you. This is why he came to earth – to seek and to save the lost! (vs. 10)
Here’s my video with my thoughts about this week’s passage:
(if you cannot see the video – click here to view it)
Zacchaeus ran ahead to climb the tree so he could see Jesus.
He HAD to see Jesus.
He didn’t stand in the midst of the noise and crowd talking to a neighbor. He had one thing on his mind – seeing Jesus.
He HAD to see Jesus.
The clamor and noise of this world will pull us away from Jesus if we do not fight against it. We must daily run ahead of the world and find Jesus in his word and enjoy time with him in our homes. Movies, magazines, social media and advertisements, say – watch me, pursue me – but Jesus wants us to turn our eyes toward him – to watch Him and pursue Him.
Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.
He came to pursue you.
Won’t you run to him today?
This week’s Challenge:
Strive to make this week a week where you run to Jesus every morning. Consistently do your morning devotions and check in with your GMG’s or here on our blog. If you are struggling maybe you can do what I do. I put my Bible on my computer chair so I cannot sit down before first reading God’s word. Put your Bible on your breakfast chair, the seat of your car or even the toilet seat! Set it where ever you sit first thing in the morning. Run to Jesus.
Walk with the King!
