This week we are in Luke 20, and we are going to be looking at Jesus’ interaction with some of the religious leaders. We will be able to feel the tension that is building between Jesus and those who are looking for a reason to arrest him.
The chief priests and scribes want to know where Jesus gets his authority from and Jesus refuses to tell them. He already knew that they would not accept the truth. Their hearts were hard and their minds made up.
Here is my video about today’s passage.
Jesus has all authority because he is God. He is the source of his own authority.
How does this affect us? When he says something do we believe it? And when he commands something do we obey it? Jesus has hard words to say not only to religious elite of his day, but to us as well. Is Jesus our authority or do we look elsewhere for wisdom, help, answers and guidance?
This week’s Challenge:
Jesus claims authority in every area of our lives. Take this week to think and pray about areas in your life that you are reluctant to give over to Him. Then pray that God would gently open your hands and show you that he knows what is best and therefore will do what is best.
