Unplugged- a guest post by Chrystal Evans Hurst {Plus a Giveaway}

 23_Kingdom-Woman-Quotes-Chrystal-e1373686875583

I’m sitting here in a VERY quiet house. Quiet time for my littles is normally from 2 to 4 p.m. and most days I’m insistent that they participate in it. So yes, my littles are having quiet time at just this moment, but my house is exceptionally quiet for another reason.

My electricity is off.

Not only are my children quiet but my house has no “hum”. There is no hum from the refrigerator or the air conditioner. The fan on the computer is not steadily puttering away in the background and the clock’s tick-tock is silent. There are no ceiling fans turning and the phone is in a comatose state as well.

My house is super quiet.

It’s so quiet that I notice it. The silence is almost deafening. And isn’t that sad?…

Is this how we live? So used to noise that we are surprised by the absence of it? So accustomed to a steady hum of busyness that we don’t notice it until it’s gone?

Today, for awhile, my house is unplugged. My bill is paid (I did call to check :) and the weather is good today, so it appears that we are just benefitting from a plain ‘ole outage for no-good-reason.

There is a blessing in this though. I can hear the birds chirping outside my window. I can hear my son clear his throat in his sleep. I can hear the faint sound of an airplane passing by miles above the earth. I can hear myself think.

And I can hear Jesus.

In this moment, on this day, I notice how clearly I hear him. I realize how audible His whisper is when that still, small, voice is not in competition with other voices in my head and in my heart.

And I am convicted. I’m moved by the thought that the sweet Savior is always there desiring communion with me and wanting me to experience a level of relational communication with him that only occurs when I am still.

And I am reminded. I’m reminded that my journey in biblical womanhood, the way to being a Kingdom woman who is marked by the Son of God, is to actually spend time with the one who I call Master.

Oh how I know that I must make time to unplug from the daily grind and busyness of life so that I can know that I am truly here, truly alive in Christ, truly and completely aware of what I am feeling and thinking and of what God wants to say to me.

Truly in the present.

The electricity will eventually come back on. The question is will I purposely do the work of “unplugging” on a regular basis so that I never get accustomed to the “hum” of a life lived lacking intention, purpose, or clarity.

Thank you Lord for a lesson today in rest, quiet, and a sense of your peace. Never let me forget that even when you walked this earth, you regularly “unplugged” and made time for rest, time alone, and communion with the Father.

Today I’m honored and excited to share with you, Dr. Tony Evans and his daughter, Chrystal Evans Hurst’s, new book: Kingdom Woman. I grew up listening to Dr. Evans on the radio as my dad drove me to school in the mornings and I was so excited to have the opportunity to spend some time with his daughter, Chrystal, this summer in Colorado.

kingdom woman

In Kingdom Woman, Tony Evans and his daughter, Chrystal Evans Hurst, remind women of their calling from God to be free, delivered, healed, and to have hope. The authors bring insight that encourages women to correct distorted perceptions and understand who they really are in Christ—never settling for less because they are connected with the One who gives them hope.  A kingdom woman is called and empowered to live a life of victory through Christ!

I have done several of Priscilla Shirers bible studies and would love to win her parents book!! Thank you for this wonderful oppurtunity!!

  66. I loved this post! While reading it, I sat in my very quiet house (the baby was napping) and I could hear my rather noisy parakeets chirping their little hearts out, the bugs outside the window, and perhaps the hum of a few electrical devices in my house. The part I especially liked in the post was the reminder that even Jesus took time to “unplug” and go somewhere alone to commune with God the Father.
Thanks for another chance for a great giveaway!

  67. I would love to win & read this book!

  68. I shared it on FB & Pinterest. I’m a fan.

  70. Would love to win this book! Great blog post! Often times we need to be still and know that He is God! This comes when we close our mind to everything else around us!!

  71. I have actually been thinking about going without electricity. Not as a lifestyle (especially not in Louisiana!) but every now and then at least for a few hours to appreciate the quietness. Unfortunately I live in an apartment and even if we were to turn everything off, I would still be able to hear the a/c units above us:). But reading this was very refreshing.

And I would love to be entered in for a chance to win this book. Anything was my first study with GMG and what a change it has made in my life. Looking forward to the next study!

  72. I have shared this on Twitter and Facebook. Will try Pinterest when it lets me:)
