What will you choose in 2013?

Aaahhhh, welcome 2013.  I’ve been waiting for you.

Yesterday I took down the final Christmas decorations lingering in my home, and I have to say, it felt good to box up the last bit.  While I absolutely LOVE the lights, ornaments and special pieces that have become festive staples in our home year after year, I have to say that once the new year hits, I’m ready to simplify.  I’m quick to let go of the extra clutter, glitter and pine needles in exchange for a little more order and a lot less dust.

After the packing was complete, I looked around my living room and saw a clean slate, full of possibilitiesYessssss.  Kind of like this brand new year.

A new year equals a fresh start in a lot of waysAnd every day… every year, we have new choices to make.

It’s that time when New Year’s Resolutions are all the buzz.  Just for fun, I Googled 2013′s Top Ten New Year’s Resolutions, and not surprisingly found everything from fitness/losing weight, to getting out of debt, learning new things, and spending more time with family and friends.  Great goals to be sure. But already I’m feeling that clutter called “life” crowd back in, and I need to make sure my “choosing” is in order.  You see, it’s easy to focus on the good, yet miss out on the best.  So on day four of the new year, I have to shut out the noise and the clutter of this world, and boldly proclaim that above anything else…

In 2013, I choose Christ.

I pray that by God’s grace, I’ll know and love Him more in 2013 than I did in 2012.  I’ll be distracted often, and it won’t always be easy.  But I’m crying out to God for His strength and help, and I’m making a deliberate choice to seek Him (I love how Oswald Chambers describes this: “. . . choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. . . . Your choice must be a deliberate determination— it is not something into which you will automatically drift.”).  All I know is this… when I choose Him first, everything else will fall into place.

The task seems a bit daunting, and even a bit uncertain at times.  But beginning in the Bible is a great place to start.  Thanks for joining us here at Good Morning Girls as we prayerfully begin a new year, asking God to help us know Him more through His Word in 2013.   We can’t wait to get started!!

“…then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…

But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

~Joshua 24:15

  1. I love that you chose Christ. With all the distractions life brings I to pray to keep my eyes on Christ. May he be in the center of everything I do. This year I chose the word center. I pray that I know him more each day. Blessings.

I love your post Whitney. After having a terrible emotional 2012, I’m ready for a fresh divine start. My goal 2013 is to stay focused on the Lord’s wisdom whatever I’ll do or decide.

  6. I love your writing style, Whitney. Such a great addition to the GMG site & thank you for this post about staying grounded in truth.

  7. I choose Christ but I fail Him every day. All the distractions I allow to come between me and Him are crazy. I pray I can keep my focus on him and less on the little things
