{Week 3} Paul’s Labor for the Church ~ Colossians 1:24-29; 2:1-5

Welcome to Week 3 of Colossians, girls!  God has been so faithful already in revealing His Word to us in our study, and I am more than excited to jump into a new week together!!

This week we find ourselves beginning in Colossians 1:24, where Paul begins speaking of his ministry to the church.  Join me as I touch on some of Paul’s keys to effective ministry in spite of the challenging circumstances he found himself in…

What we can learn from Paul this week:

1.  We can rejoice, even in suffering, because of our identity in Christ!

2.  We are Christ’s servants, and can obediently continue the ministry he has called us to, even in the midst of challenging circumstances.

3.  We can finish strong, knowing that our strength comes from “the energy Christ so powerfully works” in us.

For those of you who would like to dig deeper into our scriptures this week, I’ve provided a few additional resources below. Feel free to read or listen to them throughout the week as we dig into God’s Word together!

Digging Deeper Resources:

WEEKLY CHALLENGE:  Are you in the midst of a challenging circumstance?  Ask a trusted friend to pray that God will give you joy in the midst of your struggle, and that He will use you during your struggle in whatever way He sees fit, for His glory.  Then have that friend keep you accountable in the days and weeks to come!

  1. I am really enjoying getting up early and spending time in the word before each day!

  2. Please pray for peace and support for me. I just recently went through my 3rd miscarriage of the year. March, July, and now September. All 3 were 8 weeks along. At first we thought my progesterone levels were low so I took supplements for that but it didn’t do any good. I have been a believer for a very long time, but I have never been through anything so hard. I know this is part of his plan, and I have total faith in Him, but it hurts so! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and love for the Lord!

  3. Alicia E. says:

This chapter could have not fallen onto a better week! I just found out Thursday that I have lost our baby (I was 8 weeks along my 2nd pregnancy at that time) and so hearing those news broke my heart and my family’s and I have to decide if I should miscarry the child naturally or go through the D&C. I definitely need prayer that Christ will give me his strength and joy as my family and I are going through lost and heartache.

  4. I lost our baby at 11 weeks. At the time, it was the hardest most painful thing I had ever dealt with. I did undergo a D & C. My church family prayed for me and I felt such peace and comfort. I will be praying for you both!

  5. Wooohooo!!! Whitney – preach it sister!!! SOOOO excited to SEE and HEAR you this morning!!! It’s been so long – since Dallas last year! I just love your warm smile and sweet words and cannot wait to see you again!!! Thank you for an encouraging word this morning!
    Lots of Love,
    Courtney

  6. Stephanie Whelchel says:

L O V E this Whitney!! Shared it twice in my group because I think it offers great insight to the scripture!!

  7. This was so encouraging and Alicia I willbe lifting you up, praying God will lead, guide and direct you.

    By His Grace,
    Adrienne

  8. I really enjoyed what you said about these scriptures and I would like God to help me to hear Him more clearly and to be more still before Him and to understand His word more deeper what He wants me to know from His word and to apply it to my life and families. I also would like prayer for me to keep my joy during the trails I am going through, I just recently got a job after a year and a half of looking and enjoyed that job and was faithful to both jobs and about 3 weesk ago I recieved a call on Sunday that I was laid off due to down sizing but then my friend sent me a message and sent me the link to that exact job I was let go of so it does not make sense to me at all because I know I was so faithful to that job even being on the clock 5 minutes early every day and not missing but only 3 days in 6 months where others were calling in like crazy so why I lost my job like this I am not sure but I know I have to trust God has a Better plan for my life even when I don’t see it. I do own my own business cleaning houses and businesses but as of right now I only have 2 steady homes and I know I have one coming as soon as she gets some things caught up because I use to clean her house and she was also laid off but now has a new job just has to get caught back up but she said she wants me to clean for her and her husband, so that will be 3 and one of my customers is going to put my flyers in the houses he sprays for pest control,(he owns his own business). I do not know what Gods plan is but I know I have to trust what He is allowing to happen in my life for my good even when I do not see it! So please pray for me to do that and to keep my peace from God and joy!!!

  9. Brooke, I, too, had 3 miscarriages many years ago and went on to have my daughter, Rachel, who just turned 21! For me it meant taking 1 baby aspirin every day of my pregnancy. Ask your doctor about your cardiolipid antibodies. God will bless you and keep you. He loves you and your babies the most!

  10. I was just wondering which of the piper selections we are supposed to read this week.

I also really enjoyed your Vlog thank you for sharing!

  11. Jen Thorn says:

Oh, this was so fun. It was so nice to see you and you did a really great job and you had great words for us. Thank you.

  12. Diane, Thank you so much for sharing your story and for the encouragement. I will talk with my doctor about the cardiolipid antibodies. I have 2 children already a 6 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. My little girl knows about the first 2 miscarriages and you know what she said…”I have 2 brothers or sisters in heaven!” It was such a blessing to hear her say that because I did not look at it in that way. The Lord has blessed me so!
