{Week 1} Ephesians 1:1-14

Welcome to week 1 of our 12 week Good Morning Girls bible study in the book of Ephesians! I’m so glad YOU are here! This past enrollment session has been a whirlwind for me……..God is doing amazing things through GMG! I was thinking about it all day today as I was trying to add women into leader groups, answer emails and reply to Facebook requests. As I sat amazed at all the women God has brought to this current session, over 5,000 from ALL over the world, I know why He is moving so powerfully. It doesn’t have anything to do with me but rather with YOU and His Word!!! God is passionate about His Word reaching “to the ends of the earth” and he’s passionate about His daughters getting to know Him better and deepening THEIR relationship with Him. God loves you and He desires for you to spend quality time each day reading His Word.

Each and every day we have a choice, will we choose to spend time with God today? My prayer for all of us is……YES! As we embark on this 12 week journey together, I pray we will develop the discipline of being in God’s Word on a daily basis. I pray each day we will choose God.

This week read: Ephesians 1:1-14

Focus on:

  1. Pray BEFORE you read that day’s assigned scriptures. Pray that God will speak to you and help you understand what you are reading.
  2. Rising early to spend time with God BEFORE the kids get up, or purposefully set aside time in your day to spend with Him. You establish the time and then work on sticking to it.
  3. Work through the S.O.A.P. method as you learn to dig deeper and focus on the assigned verses for that day.
  4. Reach out, share what you are reading and learning with your Good Morning Girls group. If you don’t have a group, I’d LOVE for you to share on our Facebook page or in our comment area on our blog.

Keep in mind: Good Morning Girls is a place of grace–college students, nursing moms, working moms, homeschooling moms, room moms, grandma’s caring for their grandchildren or ailing parents, and women from all walks of life are here! We women are busy and doers! We need this time to refuel and recharge–but this needs to be a time of peace–NO pressure- do what time allows. Better a little time in God’s Word than no time at all.

  2. Angela, that was such a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing it, I plan on passing it on to my husband and girls. Such a powerful message. Going to dig into the Word now.

    Have a wonderful day!

  3. This study has been exactly what I need! I have been dealing and wrestling with a lot of self image and insecurity issues lately. Sometimes these come out of nowhere but they are powerful in their ability to take my eyes off of what is truth. Ephesians 1:4 has been balm to my soul and am memorizing this to combat all those lies from the enemy. “Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love” Ephesians 1:4 MSG. Knowing that the Lord delighted in me long before I could ever do anything to achieve his love, blows my mind. To be made whole and holy in his amazing love is my prayer. Thank you for this study and this online group!

  4. Fantastic video. A def must watch. Holy smokes I’m emotional today!

  5. Good morning, Ladies!

I have been struggling with the first chapter of Ephesians for a couple years now and I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on your thoughts about God choosing the body of Christ before the foundation of the world (vs. 4). I have always believed that God chooses everyone, but then these verses don’t sound conducive to that…? I would love to hear some ideas here!

    Thanks,
    Jenny

  6. Thanks so much for praying for us!

  7. Annie Osborne says:

Thank you so much for sharing this video! It made me tear up and think about my own life at this very moment. Thank you for your prayers.

    Have a blessed day everyone!
    Annie

  8. Jenny, I struggle with predestination too.

I love the way Suz explains it in her comment on the GMG FB wall https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=199046550192408&id=109768529062766 (1st comment)

  9. Thank you Sonita! I will check it out for sure!

  10. SarahJean says:

Jenny, I believe that predestination is like the Trinity, in that it cannot be fully grasped. 1 Peter 1 explains how God chose the believers. God foreknew what everyone would choose (whether to believe and follow or not) and therefore, “according to His foreknowledge” He chose. Everyone has free will and is given a chance to know God, but God knows in advance, so that before the foundations of the earth He chose us and set us apart.
Like I said though, it’s hard to logically reconcile and would make for hours upon hours of discussion to thoroughly explain. More space and time than I have here. For example, then why did He even let those who would not chose Him to be born, but to me it’s the same type of thing as the Trinity. You just cannot fathom it, because it’s a God thing and we are so finite.

  11. Great video. It really hit home for me. Can’t wait to get started on the bible study.

  12. Thank you for this study and thank you for the resources. They help me alot :D

  13. Hello Ladies,

This is my first time doing an online bible study, and I wanted to know if anyone could tell me where to find a *trusted*, free online NIV version of the Bible. I went to one site, but it had an add for Palm Reading on the front page!!!

Thank you, and I look forward to this much needed time with God (and some fellowship). Jennifer, I hear you girl! I want to withstand the enemies lies about me, and be able to walk confidently in the Lord. Thank you for posting about self-esteem. **Hugs**

  14. We are So excited about this new book to study in The Word! God bless everyone!!!

  15. Thank you for all your work. I am hoping to complete Ephesians along with you. I was really blessed to join a facebook group of women who are or have ministered in Niger for 1 John, as a home-schooling Mum in the UK it has been such joy to be in a daily group with other women, especially many dear friends in Niger. I didn’t quite make it to the end of 1 John with you, but I did complete it and was really blessed… here’s to being more organised and the joy of setting aside time in obedience to soak in His presence and write His word on my heart. Blessings

  16. GREAT video!! :) I had been saved for 11 years before I ever heard of predestination, election, irresistible grace, foreknowledge, free will, no free will, etc. It really sent my head and heart spinning. :’( After a year of study of prayer, I have come to the realization, that we can’t possibly know and understand it all. There are some things that we just have to trust God in, and keep our focus on Him, and doing what His Spirit leads us to do. What I do know, is that I am saved, reguardless of how or why that came about. It is my job to spread the Gospel, plant seeds, and leave the rest in God’s ultra capable, and sovereign hands! I listened to the John McAurthur sermon listed on the main GMG blog page today, and it was a HUGE blessing! Brought me to tears. Thanks SO much for posting it, Angela!! :) ♥ I know everything this morning was directly from God to me! ♥ :’)

  17. Oh Angela, thanks so much for sharing such a powerful video reminder of a Godly perspective for life. I’ve been so blessed by the 1 John study and am finding I’m actually hungering and thirsting for daily time with God. Thank you and Courtney for being used by God to bless me abundantly ~ Faye

  18. Jennifer C. says:

Dear Lord, please help me rest in the realization that You will provide the blessings and
holiness. I need supply nothing in my weakness, but rely solely on You and Your finished work. Thank you Lord for the cross and Your mercy on me, and for choosing me those eons ago before the foundation of the world.

  19. I truly enjoyed my “date” with God this morning. I felt so loved, fed, and equipped to conquer any frustrations or fears that could potentially come my way. Thank you ladies for bringing us this Bible study so that we may “be holy and blameless…”

    God Bless!

  20. God has blessed me with every spiritual blessing. He has not held back from me so I will not hold back from Him! Thanks for the reminder. I loved the video!

  21. thank you for this. i’ve wanted someting like this for a long time~

  22. Laura Satterfield says:

In His love and wisdom, and by His will, he has made us accepted, redeemed. After we believed, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit, the earnest (like earnest money on a loan) of our inheritance. Our blessings are in heavenly places in Christ. His intention is that we would be holy, without blame. . .His children. He gives us wisdom and reveals the mystery of His will.

Knowing what joy there is in the present/presence of Him, I can only imagine what joy, wisdom and glory awaits us on the other side!

May we all grow in our trust In Him…

  23. This is my first day here. I am so looking forward to this journey!

  24. This is my first study with Good Morning Girls and my first experience with the S.O.A.P. method of study also. After only this first day, the only thing I can say is I feel like I am “home”. This study format is exactly what I’ve been craving and I am so thankful to God for leading me here. Be glorified Lord!

  25. Hello,

Is it to late to start a group for this? And does it matter where the group is from (ie, a church MOPS group?) I look forward to doing this study!! What an awesome way to dive into Gods word. thank you!

  26. Ann Varlay says:

This study is exactly what I have been looking for! I LOVE the additional info provided by MacArthur and Piper. Thank you so much for this in depth stuff!

  27. A great little book on the topic of God’s sovereignty in salvation is by J. I. Packer titled “Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God”.

  28. A great little book on God’s sovereignty in salvation is by J.I. Packer titled “Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God”.

  29. Carolyn Graham says:

Thank you for sharing the video, it was wonderful!! I plan to share it with my friends. I choose to join the bible study today and looking forward to amazing things happening in my life. Again thank you.

  30. Ohhh I loved reading all of your comments this morning!!! It blessed my heart to see you all talking and discussing these issues amongst yourselves. :)

Let me say that I’ve struggled in the past with this same issue and I wish I had an answer for you. I’ve come to the same conclusion that it seems many of you have….God is God and I can’t possibly understand all His ways. What I do know is that God is LOVE and that He loves us. He sees the whole picture and knows all our hearts, what I’m called to do is trust and obey.

Thank you for sharing all your thoughts with us! I loved reading the discussion you all had. :)

    Love,

    Angela

  31. Ephesians Study time: Investing in myself to be a better princess of the most high, a wife, mother, friend:) January 16, 2012 **MY time with God and responses to His word

1PAUL, AN apostle (special messenger) of Christ Jesus (the Messiah), by the divine will (the purpose and the choice of God) to the saints (the consecrated, set-apart ones) [a]at Ephesus who are also faithful and loyal and steadfast in Christ Jesus:**Special messenger, I am His POEM, a child of God…divine will to choose GOD, and be set apart and to be FAITHFUL to God and be steadfast…immovable, unshakable, unstoppable in CHRIST! To be free walk in freedom from the past…knowing that I am special loved forgiven and cleansed in the eyes of God. Hold my head up high, steady…smooth straight and fixed eyes on the prize, for the mark of the high calling in CHRIST JESUS! **

2May grace (God’s unmerited favor) and spiritual peace [which means peace with God and harmony, unity, and undisturbedness] be yours from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.**Definition: Grace is God’s unmerited favor. It is kindness from God we don’t deserve. There is nothing we have done, nor can ever do to earn this favor. It is a gift from God. Grace is divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration (rebirth) or sanctification; a virtue coming from God; a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine favor.Grace is joy liberality gifts favor and benefits-pastor jim frease…God doesn’t care what we have or haven’t done. 1 John 1:9 as we confess our sins he is just to forgive us from all unrighteousness! Pastor Jim has taught us that humility is recognizing that GOD is our source and DO things HIS WAY. IS 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.

3May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm! **Blessings mean the VERY BEST God has to offer, and all we have to do is say YES AND AMEN! The blessings he has given us and I WILL receive them, not based on what I have or haven’t done, but what Jesus Christ has done for me! Eph 3:20 God does exceedin all I can think ask or imagine! People will know us by our fruit and our love one to another! **Head up! Walk confident in Christ, behold all things have past, and all things have become new!2 cor 5:17. Thank you Lord for your steadfast love! You are the same yesterday Today and FOREVER! Hebrews 13:8

4Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love. ** WOW! He chose me, even knowing what I would do, he LOVED me enough to rescue out of the torture I was putting onmyself from past guilt and shame. Before the foundations of the earth he PICKED ME and YOU! His son Jesus was the foundation for the root of all change. Change, is holding up a hand held mirror and before God with his help change one area at a time, and at the end of this journey the long floor length mirror will be the judgement seat of Christ and we shall hear thou good and faithful servant, WELL DONE!
