Do Not Give Up ~ {Week 10} I John 5:1-12

A “life verse” is a verse or passage in the Bible that is significant to you. It may define your life, give you inspiration or direction, be something that you hang onto as you face difficult circumstances, or it could even be the passage of scripture that brought you to a belief in Jesus Christ.

My life verse is Galatians 6:9 which says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF we do not give up!”

This verse applies to every hard thing in life.
When I am weary of getting up early for my quiet time (or to blog) I remind myself “do not give up“.
When I’m tempted to be critical of my husband, I am reminded -”do not grow weary“.
When my children need disciplined over and over and over I am reminded “do not give up.”
When I grow weary in different aspects of serving at church I am reminded “do not give up”.
When I pray for lost loved ones year in and year out with no signs of change I am reminded “do not give up.”
This verse helps me to persevere when I am weary and want to give up – why? Because in time there will be a harvest – but only IF we do not give up!

I believe we need this verse today because we are on the homestretch of the fall session of Good Morning Girls. On Wednesday, December 15th, it comes to an end. Do not get weary now – finish strong!

  1. My life verse is Luke 1:37
“For Nothing is Impossible with God.”

it reminds me that i must never give up, because our God is all powerful. Nothing is impossible with Him.

  2. We are pressing in and going to finish strong!!!! Going to pass this encouragment on to my GMG group. Blessings!

  3. I actually have your verse and the one below taped by my kitchen sink to encourage me and serve as reminders.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  4. I’ve had this life verse for a very long time:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

And lately I’ve added this verse from Galatians 6:25 (NLT): “Sind we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

  5. Hi Courtney,

Phil. 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” This passage is engraved on my heart making a mark in my life that cannot be erased(: Thank you for the post!

Life verse…I have a few actually. In 2007, I felt God calling me to Africa on a short-term mission trip. But as a homeschool mom of 5, w/ the youngest less than a year, I felt this impossible! However, in August 2008, I headed for Africa, leaving behind my hubby to teach for the 1st time, kids ranging from 13 to 21 months! One verse that called me was James 1:27 “Pure & undefiled religion before God & the Father is this: to visit orphans & widows in their trouble, & to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” I cried the entire 36-hour flight, mostly worrying about dying & leaving my kids w/o Mama! When I had to come home, I cried the entire trip home, wondering who would care for the 40-some kids I had become Mama to in Kenya! While there, someone shared Matthew 19:29 w/ me…”And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundrenfold, & inferit eternal life.” Six months later, God sent me back to Kenya (short-term). I am currently the Director of a ministry which cares for AIDS orphans in Kenya, am planning a return trip next summer (alone again), & 1 w/ MY WHOLE FAMILY in early 2013! Our God is so good!

  7. Your life verse and reflection is very relevant for me at this time. Thanks. :)

A life verse of mine is “The Lord with fight for you and you have only to be still.” – (Exodus 14:14) The more I try to take control of my life, the more it goes out of control. Eventually I come to a dead end with no more options. This is when despair tries to get in. But this verse reminds me that I need to just let God do what needs to be done. He will fight for me, I have only to be still.

  8. Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3: 23, 24 HCSB)

  9. Alyssa Baker says:

Thank you, thank you for this encouragement! I am officially one week behind in my reading, and I was getting frustrated. I love the Biblical reminder in Galatians and will NOT give up! I may finish a week later than everyone else, but I will finish. I am so grateful for you and your ministry.

  10. Courtney, thanks for sharing that verse and the comments beneath. I needed them today. My life verse comes from Ephesians 3:14-21, particularly vs 20 & 21 – “Now to Him who is able to immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus, through all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

This is what I hold on to, particularly in light of your comment, “When I pray for lost loved ones year in and year out with no signs of change I am reminded “do not give up.” I pray that throughout all the generations, God will be known.

    God’s abundant blessings ~ Faye
