  1. Johanna Broscious says:

Thank you so much for the video. I had similar conversation with a young man in my family and my challenge to him was to find out for himself who God is. God is so much more than “love” in the way we humans view it. God is challenging me to dig deeper in His word and as I root out sin my fellowship with Him will be greater.

  2. Thank you for that. Really enjoying the study!

  3. This has been a wonderfulnstudy so far. Hard to read that I probably call God a liar daily as I look past the “little” sins of pride, selfishness, sloth, etc. Thank you for encouraging us to confess to our righteous heavenly Father and allow Him to cleanse me!

  4. Thank you for the video and leading this study! It has been awesome so far with how much God is revealing to me through my brother in Christ, the disciple John! I also LOVE the wordle!! Be blessed!

  5. I have had this same encounter with my son. Recently. And I had the same revelation: if sin is not sin (falling short of the glory of God) and it doesn’t need judgement or condemning, then what did Jesus die for? – as 1 John says, “we make him to be a liar.” But! The truth is, “the truth is not in US” “we do not the truth”, when we or anyone makes these sorts of claims.

Things I found this week as I would look up specific words:
sin – not taking part in or a share in – people who claim “I’m a good person” are saying they dont’ have a share in humanity’s “sin nature”

    fellowship – communion or intamacy

walk – progress – if we “progress” in darkness – how scary of a thought is that? vs. 6

darkness – root is “shadow” – interception of light – where we are living is in the shadow of the sin that is blocking out God – because God is Light.

sin – to be without a share
forgive – send away, bid away, as in a man divorcing his wife – when I confess my sins God is faithful and just to DIVORCE me from them! He sends them away!

unrighteousness – injustice of a judge – when I confess my share in sin’s nature, he not only takes away my sin/sins, but cleanses me from the injust attributes associated with it

Now I can truly say, “There is therefore NOW NO condemnation for me, because I am in Christ Jesus.”!

I have to pray these revelations for my son as well.

  6. I got behind on my study, so am catching up today! The topic of confessing our sin is interesting because yesterday the Lord really convicted me heavily of things in my life that need to be repented of and weeded out. I have learned & grown so much in the past year or so, but I have found the closer I get to him, the more his light shines on the ever smaller and smaller sins. They seem small to us, anyway. I know he’s trying to eradicate everything in opposition to him so I can become completely who he wants me to be and operate in the fullness of his power.

  7. Thank you for heading up this powerful study. Your leadership and the mighty Word are making changes in my life! What a joy to know that as the Lord reveals my sin to me and I confess it, day by day, His grace is there, day by day, to forgive and enable me to go on.

  8. Great video, Courtney! I really appreciate all of your wisdom. I can see that you take your studying seriously. I’m really enjoying this 1 John study. Back in high school I studied it with a group of friends (we met super early at school) and it was a huge blessing.

  9. This video was great! I will be examining my heart with God more habitually and asking Him to reveal my sins for what they are!

  10. This is actually what I wrote down in my journal today, before watching this video! It is easy to think that when we mess up through the day that it’s no big deal & to tell ourselves, “next time I’ll do better.” But really at the root of all our wrongdoing is SIN and it needs to be confessed. Denying that it is sin is to be a liar! And I don’t want to be a liar. I want my DAILY actions to show that I am in the light!

  11. Enjoyed the video message today. Very good and it’s nice to be reminded of the truth. The Bible Study has been really good too and I can see it making a difference in me.

God Bless You and have a blessed weekend.

  12. Yes, yes, yes! Thank you Courtney. You are such a blessing!

  13. I’m behind on my study, but am getting caught up today! I enjoyed your message and was convicted on the sin of gluttony in my life. I’ll be confessing and asking for strength. I would ask for your prayers as well!

  14. This week at church we were challenged to yield to the Spirit. In doing that I’m seeing more of my sin. This is a great challenge because I “forget” to confess my sins. But the more I do, the more I see how God wants me to live. This study is amazing and I’m so thankful for God’s leading with Courtney and Angela. My group is so uplifting and encouraging too. I love what each woman is sharing and I’m writing those down in my notebook too and reviewing all that God is teaching me through this study. Blessings to all of you and may we draw closer to God as we continue to dig into his Word!

  15. Thanks Courtney for a great message. I have been getting a lot out of this study so far, especially the part about denying our sins are sins. During my prayer time each day, I try to confess my sins and also I ask God to point out where I need to confess because sometimes I don’t realize when I sin.

  16. This is my first GMG Bible study and at first I was a little skeptical about doing a study online and/or posting updates on FB but I kept feeling led to this study for the pure joy of studying a few verses each day! I am very thankful God has sustained me through these two weeks because He has been so patient to show me my sin AND to confess it! How even more loving of Him to tell us He is light and our sin will be exposed but also that our sin WILL be cleansed! My prayer is to be so sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading that I quickly confess and repent (turn around!) and dwell upon His truth. Thank you for this study and for your encouragement! This study has been such a blessing and comfort!

  17. WOW! This was so inspiring!! I definitely needed this challenge. I love how God can talk to us and so many different ways. I’m so excited to say that I FINALLY got my Bible back from TX (I moved up north bc of the Navy and I thought I took it with me..) I can’t believe I lived in a home for 6 months without my Bible, only using my phone or online. Never again will that happen. When I saw my package I was so excited i ran to Dollar Tree to buy color pencils! I love the idea of the color pencils, makes the Scripture sink in more deeply.

  18. I just finished coloring my Bible (Mom’s Devotional Bible) with all the key words and the bottom of my page has a devotion about 1 John 1:8-10. I really want to share this with all of you :)

Additional Scripture: Psalm 32:5; James 5:16
In 1 John 1:9 we’re told “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” The word used here is harmartia, the well-known Greek archery term meaning “missing the mark” not hitting the bull’s-eye. Because it is used here in the plural, it’s likely that John is not referring to the confession of sin in general but is encouraging the confession of our specific, personal sin.
Confession is more than just a general admission of guilt. It is a categorized, specific recital of known sin. Of course, with our limited memories and warped brains, we’ll leave some out. But genuine confession will be as specific as possible.
Are we sinners? Sure we are. Everyone is. But can we name our sins specifically? Try it. Confession is saying sin is so–specifically. The result is forgiveness from a faithful and just God.

  19. Juanita Robinson says:

Thank You for the inspiring video. When I say my prayers at night I ask GOD to forgive me for all the sins I have sinned against him (the ones I know of and the ones that I thought of in my mind. Blessing to my sister in CHRIST.

  20. This is my first time on this site and find it ironic that the teachings and challeng given on this video have spoken to the challenges I have faced in recent weeks. I have so much to learn and am blessed to have found this site. I look forward to the remainder of the study and the spirtual riches God has in store for all of us. Have a blessed and prosperous day!! Thank you

  21. Hello! I hope you all are doing well…Dont ask me how I got to this site, and to see this blog you just posted about 1 John 5-10. Wow.. So I need some advice maybe? I know I am praying about my relationship with my boyfriend and putting it in Gods hands. However maybe someone who reads this can give me their opinion. The thing is my boyfriend, he is a christian, and he has the same theory you mentioned in your blog about focusing in the “God is love” a little bit too much as an excuse to sin i gueess? He has been confusing me a little because well he says that if you really love someone and you are going to marry someone, that is not sin, thats what Adam and Eve did he says. i dont agree with him i tell him i dont want to sleep with him agaon until we are married and he says ok we have our differences, but he tries to tell me its not a sin if you love each other and its not lust. His reasoning kind of confuses me. i love my boyfriend and i know deep down he loves God and all he just maybe has fallen trap of that theory of “God is love its ok to sin” that you were talking about in your video blog. Please help me any advice would be welcome.. i dont know what to do .. ive tried to break up with him before but he always cried when we are breaking up and begs me to continue with him that he loves me and ill never find a guy who loves me that much and then i realize i love him too and end up not breaking up with him afterall.. This situation has happend a couple times. I feel like i need God to remove him supernaturally from my life because if he doesnt i wont be able to break up with him.. i just dont like that he still sins sometimes and I dont know.. any words would be encouraging please…

  23. I am going to be better about this, I am going to own what I have done- because only by accepting my sins and calling them what they are, can I fully accept them and be cleansed. Thank you!

  24. This is definitely something I have felt being called to the table in me, over the last week’s study and sermons at church. I wrestled with something last week, finally giving it up, but it’s not over yet! Thanks for this great video and challenge, I pray I will be conscious of sin in my life, seeing it for what it is, and ready and willing to confess and repent of it without delay!

  25. I am new here, but have gone back and read and watched the videos. I am so excited about learning more this week!

  26. I have a comment/question….what about a person who says that the “tense” of the word “have” not sinned is incorrect. This person says that Johns verse about having not sinned is contradictory to every other verse in the bible. This person says that it is completely possible for her to not have sin in her life AT ALL now that she has accepted Christ. This person says “HAVE I sinned? YEs! Am I sinning now? No!” I am frustrated by this because I do not think she knows what “little sins” we christians can be part of every day…such as looking in a magazine or catalog and wishing you had something, or being mad and angry and disrespectful to your parents, or judgemental, or say a little white lie to get out of something or make an excuse or whatever…the list goes on! Of course I am not perfect and I do these things, out of my yucky human feelings and I sometimes catch myself in the act and immediately ask for forgiveness or later I am like “dangnabit! I shouldnt have done that” and ask for forgiveness. I believe that this person believes that now Christ is in their life they are able to be completely sinless like Jesus Christ?! Is this not also deceiving? Am I wrong in thinking that this is incorrect? Is it possible to live completely free of sin day in and day out as long as Christ is part of our lives!? Please comment and let me know. I would love to know what others think. :)

Thanks Courtney! Blessings to you all!!
