Last week we announced our new Fall On-line Bible Study in the book of I John.

For those of you who have printed out the free reading plan here is what you will do beginning Monday, September 19th.

Get your Bible and a fresh journal. Read the passage of scripture for the day and apply the SOAP method. Here is what SOAP stands for:

1. S- Write out the scripture passage for the day.

2. O- Write down 1 or 2 observations from the passage.

3. A- Write down 1-2 applications from the passage.

4. P- Pray over what you learned from today’s passage.

By the end of the 12 weeks, you will have written out the entire book of I John in your journal. You will have meditated on every single verse in I John as you have written it out and pondered each verse bit by bit. Doesn’t that excite you to know God’s word this well!!! It really excites me!

When you come to a passage that you do not understand, I recommend Crosswalk’s Bible Study Tools found here:http://www.biblestudytools.com/ On this page in the lower right hand corner, you can find links to Bible dictionaries, commentaries, concordances, and other Bible translations, etc. I have been using this website for 8 years! I LOVE it!

I recommend Matthew Henry’s Commentary’s found here for gaining more background understanding to the passage we are SOAPing.

Our Web Schedule:

Angela is on maternity leave for the first month of this session – but when she returns – on Mondays she will be kicking off our week in God’s word. Wednesdays are feedback day – we hope you will share what you are learning in the comments section and visit the bloggers in our Women In The Word Wednesdays Blog Hop. On Fridays, I will be posting one-minute videos that correlatate with our study for the week.

We have one final summer video to share with you all before Angela goes on Maternity Leave!

The summer session ends today!  The fall session will not begin until September 15th – here’s more details:

What: The “Good Morning Girls” are a group of Christian women who email, facebook, twitter or text messaging to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 4 years, I have been a part of a group of girls who email each other each weekday morning after we have our quiet time. We say “Good Morning” and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children’s naps or at bedtime.

When: Enrollment runs September 1st through September 15th

Where: Sign up on the Message board above

Who: Invite your friends!  If you have a group of girls already, then enroll them on the message board. If you do not have a group yet (and do not have friends to invite), go to the thread on the board where other ladies are looking for a group and email one of them and create a group!

Why: Our main goal is to be accountable to each other and to help each other maintain the discipline of reading God’s word daily.

Important to note: When our group started we had 11 women – within five months we were down to 5 women. After 2+ years, we had one drop out and we added two new ones this past fall. Your group may lose a few – don’t sweat it. This is normal – do not take it personally or let it discourage you. Keep going and praying for your group.

Over time, we have learned a lot about each other and have bonded. We discuss marriage, parenting, homemaking and more. We have fasted and prayed for each other in times of trouble and have kept each other accountable in specific areas of weakness.

Commitment: Joining a Good Morning Girls group requires commitment. Now that Angela and I have had time to watch these groups form and grow, we are aware that some start strong but then fizzle out. As a result the entire group can get discouraged. So it is very important that if you join a group you remain committed to the end. Even if you can only check in once or twice a week – please do not quit completely. The other girls WANT to hear from you!

This is a 3 month commitment. The fall session runs from September 15th – December 15th.

What to study: You can choose as a group to read through a certain book of the Bible together, to join a Bible study together such as a Beth Moore study or each do your own thing.

If you are not sure what to read in your quiet time - please join us here on GoodMorningGirls.org for an On-line study of the book of I John.   This is what I will be doing in my quiet times during this session.
