Check Out This Wall Art & WIWW Link-Up

I am so excited to introduce to you Jolanthe!!!   She has the first Good Morning Girls Group on Blog Frog and 85 ladies joining her for this book club!!!

Jolanthe is a mom of 4 kiddos {currently 10, 8, 6 and 4} ~ and wife to a great man. She homeschools her children and life is never dull {or lacking in excitement}. She blogs at No Ordinary Moments and at Homeschool Creations she shares what they are doing in their homeschool time. Contrary to popular belief, she does NOT have it all together and is thankful that she has a husband who is full of grace and above all a God who is lavish in His grace toward her.

After reading Seasons of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, she wanted to read more of Clarkson’s books and saw the Ministry of Motherhood book club starting. In an effort to hold herself accountable for reading {and completing} a non-fiction book, she decided to host an online book club via her Blog Frog community and has a wonderful group of 85 girls {and growing} reading along with her right now!

The area of grace is one that I most struggle with. Forget hourly, it seems that I struggle every moment of each day in exhibiting grace toward my children. I KNOW that it is one of the key places in our heart and our family that needs to be addressed.

Last week my husband and I were talking about painting our living room and adding a verse to the wall that runs along the balcony area of our children’s rooms. One that will serve to remind us to continually extend grace to our children.

After reading much of the introduction of Ministry of Motherhood to my husband last week, we came up with another idea that will not only remind us to be full of grace in our family, but also help bring into focus the five areas that are discussed in Ministry of Motherhood.

Want to see?

From the first two chapters of our reading this week, this has been the section that is resonating most in my heart:

“Perfection is not a standard He requires of me as a mother, for His grace extends to me as well as to my children. My heartfelt trust in Him will be the fuel that energizes my days as I see him draw my children through this gift that will serve them their whole lives.”

p. 29, Ministry of Motherhood

I am FAR from perfect, but am encouraged beyond measure that God’s grace has covered and will cover the multitude of my inadequacies as a mother. I pray that above all else my children will see me learning to receive the grace that has been freely given to me and that I will model for them what it means to also extend grace to others ~ starting within my own household.

Thank you so much Jolanthe for guest posting with us today!

Women around the world are IN THE WORD! So let’s get our Wednesday WIWW link-up started!

{Week 3} Ministry of Motherhood Book Club

Today we are starting week 3 of our Good Morning Girls’s Ministry of Motherhood book club with Sally Clarkson! This week we will be learning about the wonderful gift of grace!

I’d like to share with you one particular quote that touched my heart from this week’s reading:

“Each of us is designed by God to whisper his words to the hearts of our children so they will feel the call of God in their own lives to become ‘fishers of men.’ Yet we must always remember that our children, like Peter, will never be perfect. Each of them needs for us, like Jesus, to extend to him or her the gift of constant love, grace, and forgiveness. And we can only do this by relying continually on the grace of our own relationship with the Lord.” - Sally Clarkson

This week I’d like for us to focus on ways we can extend the gift of grace to our children, husband, friends etc. I love how Sally reminds us that our children will never be perfect……and neither will we for that matter. We ALL need to learn to extend the gift of grace to each other. Let’s be mindful this week to exercise the gift of grace with those in our lives. Let’s look for ways to extend grace and pray for opportunities to exhibit grace to our children to help them understand what grace means.

Today we are going to watch part 1 of Sally’s video on the Gift of Grace! I pray you are as blessed by her words on Grace as much as I have been!

{Week 2} Ministry of Motherhood Commentary

Congratulations! You have just finished week 2 of our Ministry of Motherhood book club! I hope and pray by now you are all getting to know the other women in your GMG groups and God is starting to knit your hearts together! Today I’m going to share with you a video Courtney and I made this week discussing a few of the questions listed at the end of the introduction to Ministry of Motherhood. You should find those questions on page 19 in your books. Today share your answers to the questions with your personal GMG group as well as comment below if you have time! Courtney and I always love to hear from you!

For those of you who don’t have a group yet, feel free to join Courtney and I on Facebook or Twitter each day- we will be your group for you.

Let me also take this time to encourage you if you struggled this week with your quiet times. Please remember this is a discipline that we are DEVELOPING. Just like a child who first learns to ride her bike, it’s going to take practice, you’re going to fall off a few times…….BUT GET BACK UP!  You only fail at something when you quit! YOU CAN DO THIS! Change takes time. Lean hard on Jesus and reach out to those in your GMG group. Please know I am personally praying for all of you each morning.

Before I go I wanted to share with you a few of Sally’s quotes from the introduction this week that spoke directly to my heart. (By the way…..isn’t she amazing??? Sally so inspires me to be a better mom!)

“They don’t need sweet platitudes of faith that will momentarily placate their emotions. They need the authentic strength that comes from the true foundation of a biblical world-view and a proper understanding of the real Christ who is worthy of their worship….They also need to see what real faith looks like when lived day in, day out, so they will have a pattern to follow.”- Sally Clarkson

I love what Sally says because it’s sooo true! I pray that ALL of us will demonstrate an AUTHENTIC faith to our children as we LIVE OUT our faith day in and day out!!! We aren’t going to be perfect moms……no one is, BUT let’s be moms who live out our faith to our children and daily point them to Jesus.

Another quote that I loved.

“Jesus wasn’t asking his disciples to go into the world and set up church buildings or youth groups or Wednesday night church suppers but to make disciples– to cultivate spiritual relationships with people, to draw them to Christ and then train them to reach out to other people who would also be trained and able to make other disciples. He was entrusting the messages and work of the kingdom of God into the hands of ordinary people who had come to know his love and forgiveness.” – Sally Clarkson

Did you catch that? God uses ORDINARY people, (that means you and me) to do EXTRAORDINARY things for his kingdom! How exciting is that! You don’t have to be perfect to be perfectly used by God! I’m personally convinced that God works most powerfully through those who have truly experienced his love and forgiveness!

Now that I’ve shared a few of my favorite quotes from Ministry of Motherhood I’d love to hear from you. What spoke to your heart the most this week? What is God whispering to you? Was it something that you read in Ministry of Motherhood or one of the scriptures from our quiet times this week?

A One Woman Retreat – (WIWW)

Darlene Schacht is an ordinary mom, living an extraordinary life, because of who she is through Jesus Christ. As help-meet to her husband Michael, she guides and nurtures their four children, leading them toward a deeper walk of faith.

Her work has been published in anthologies by Thomas Nelson, Tyndale Publishing and Adams Media. As well she has co-authored a book with actress Candace Cameron Bure called, Reshaping it All: Motivation for Spiritual and Physical Fitness.

You can find her blogging at Time-Warp Wife where she empowers wives to joyfully serve.

Borrowing the words from author Sally Clarkson herself, I have to say that ministry of motherhood is like a “one-woman-retreat.”

Strapped into the passenger’s seat of our minivan, I opened the cover and within minutes I was a sponge drawing wisdom from one of the most gifted writers of our time.

Sally introduces the book by giving us a glimpse into the relationship she has with her daughter, describing it as being “intimate soul mates.” I’m intrigued—hungry for more.

Isn’t that what every loving parent desires? And why? Because, as Sally explains–this bond has anchored them during several turbulent years.

On page three, Sally points out the number one thing that growing children need. And to those who think it’s a new laptop, music lessons, or a good education, delve deeper. Children need an unwavering spiritual and moral compass to lead them through life–one that we provide through an exemplified life.

That’s what lies at the core of our calling—the essence of this ministry, simply known to the world as “motherhood.”

But while we are in the world, we are not of it. Knowing Christ changes the outlook, values, and the goals of those who seriously seek to know and follow him. (page 7) It is because of our desire to serve Him that we lead our children, or as Sally calls them, our “in-home disciples.”

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Where do we start, what do we do? We minister to them with effective spiritual, emotional, and social training that comes to those with intent and a plan. Sally and her husband refer to their plan as “Life Gifts,” because they know that passing on a spiritual heritage to our children is a gift to both the parents and children. Using the “GIFT” acronym, we have a glimpse into their plan:

G – Gift of Grace

I – Gift of inspiration

F – Gift of Faith

T – Gift of Training

S – Gift of Service

All beautiful gifts we can offer our children, aren’t they?

I look forward to delving into this book to learn more about each, as together we study “The Ministry of Motherhood,” and most importantly we study our God.
