Love Their Generous Hearts

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

-James 2:15-17-

One of the many things I love about Good Morning Girls is how we strive to put God’s Word into ACTION! I think Courtney and I have touched on this topic every GMG session, last session was no different. This past winter we gave our GMG groups the following challenge: Decide as a group how you want to put James 2:17 into action by supporting the Mercy House. The Mercy House exists to provide alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya. The Mercy House aids these girls in nutrition, housing, prenatal care, counseling, Biblical teaching and job skills for sustainable living. For this challenge each group individually decided how they wanted to help the Mercy House. Some groups purchased the Mercy House t-shirts, others donated clothes and baby items, still others donated items off the monthly donation list. Each donation, no matter how big or small helped these precious girls in Kenya.

A few weeks ago I received the following email from Stacey who blogs at http://www.29lincolnavenue.com and http://modsquadblog.com/ and it so touched my heart that I wanted to share it with all of you! I LOVE how her group chose to meet the GMG Challenge!

This is the email I received from Stacey:

Hi Angela,

Our group of GMG’s lives way north and way south. We are 4 bloggers who took the GMG challenge this term. For our project, we prayed that God would give us a creative idea to help Mercy House. He put Maureen, the onsite director of Mercy House on our hearts. He said, “Love on Maureen!” And so, we contacted Kristen to see how we could best do this. She said, “Maureen is a very generous person. She is always helping others and giving her stuff away. She loves American fashion, and it would be nice for her to have some new clothing. She would love that!”

So we gathered our money, went shopping, and below you can see a picture of what we were able to get for Maureen. We are overwhelmed with joy at the thought of this sweet, giving girl wearing these items. We have prayed that they are a blessing and even a secret answer to one of her prayers!

Ministry of Motherhood Book Giveaway!

Last week Courtney and I announced our summer book club, today I’d like to give you a little more information about our upcoming book club and provide a giveaway for those who are participating!!!

Monday: Video from Sally speaking on that week’s topic. Normally the videos will last from 4-6 minutes. I LOVE listening to Sally speak, she has so much wisdom to share!

Wednesday: Our Women In the Word link-ups as well as some exciting GUEST bloggers sharing what they have learned from Ministry of Motherhood!

Friday: Courtney and I will conclude the week with a discussion on what we learned through this week’s reading and our quite times.

Good Morning Girls Spring Break!

The Winter Good Morning Girls session has come to an end.

We began this journey 12 weeks ago with over 1,200 girls! Angela and I have thoroughly enjoyed the James study this winter and cannot wait to see God’s plan unfold this summer!

The next session begins on Monday, May 16th. You can begin enrolling your groups on May 1st(Please do not enroll before then. We will be deleting everything on the message boards soon to get ready for the next session.) The session will run from May 15th to August 15th. (3 months)

If you are new to Good Morning Girls please watch the videos here . They will answer: What is Good Morning Girls? What are the details of Good Morning Girls? What if I don’t have my own group? and How does roll call work?

Now it is time for a Good Morning Girls Spring Break!

We want to strongly urge you to take a one month break from your group. I know that some of you do not want to stop…but after nearly 4 years of being in Good Morning Girls groups I have learned a few things.

1. We need a break – if we want to keep this group together long term.

2. If we don’t take a break- we end up burned out in the middle of the next session – been there done that.

3. If we don’t take a break, some of the ladies who want to drop out may not have the courage to quit. Then you have women in the group who don’t really want to be there and it’s discouraging to the rest of the group.

4. Taking a break allows ladies to leave guilt free – and makes room to invite new ladies into the group!

So we strongly encourage you to take a break – not from your quiet times – but from each other. Use the break to get together and have a luncheon or go out for coffee. Stay connected – but be free from the responsibility of every morning checking in.
