Week 11: Learning to Pray Like Elijah

We’re heard there is power in prayer but do we really believe it? James points this week to Elijah as an example of how mightily God can use us if we earnestly pray to Him. Our prayers ignite God’s power in our lives! Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get an answer right away, KEEP PRAYING!!! Keep asking, seeking and knocking until you do get an answer from our Lord!!! Don’t forget what James says this week, “The prayer of a righteous man is POWERFUL and EFFECTIVE!” Claim that verse this week as you petition God!

Week 11 Challenge: Our challenge this week is to step out in faith and pray specific prayers…..just like Elijah did. Move beyond the umbrella prayers and start deepening your fellowship with God, stepping out in faith with your specific prayers. Remember what Jesus said in John 15:7 “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you.” Share your specific prayers with your GMG group and together pray for each other!!! Become neutron prayer warriors!!!

  1. Hi Angela,

I am having trouble getting the SOAP note to open. I have the adobe reader 10 version and when I click on the link, it just shows a blank white or black page. Anyone else having the same trouble?

  2. The link is working for me.

Angela, thank you for your videos!

  3. Thank you for sharing that Angela. It reminded me of a similar situation I went through. I prayed for a teaching job here on Long Island (which is really hard to get). I was teaching in the city and knew that when we got married we would live out east. Well I went to a job fair with thousands of applicants for this specific district and was called back. I went through a four or five step interview process. I prayed specifically for the school and grade where I did my demo. lesson. God answered my specific prayer and I taught there for five more years before staying home! Our God is an awesome God who delights in answered the prayers of His children.

  4. Oh my goodness, Angela, our pastor mentioned the mustard seed yesterday too!! Then during bible study last night, with a group from another church, we talked about prayer, and how abiding in Christ and delighting in Him, will actually change our hearts and desires, and the things we pray for will be much different from what they were before! God is GREAT! I loved your prayer bomb annalogy! :) It actually brought me to tears, because we are praying for my new nephew. He’s only two weeks old, and in the NICU because of RSV. He’s on oxygen and has a feeding tube, because he quit eating. It’s heartbreaking to look at such a tiny baby hooked up to all those machines. I just pray that our prayer bomb goes off, and God heals his tiny little body!

When my husband’s company shut down, and he was laid off, he prayed specifically that God would have the first job that came up, be the one he was supposed to take. My first thought, was aren’t you limiting God there, isn’t that asking a little too much?! Oh, ME of little faith! :P Out of all that he applied for, the first job that came up was in another state, and seemed impossible to work out, but it did, and God worked EVERYTHING out! Here we are 6 months later, and doing well. We serve such a great, loving and powerful God!

  5. Hi Heather!

Were you able to get the Week 11 document to finally download? If not, I can email it to you! Just let me know! ;)

Thanks Becca for being so sweet and helpful!!! :)

    Love God Greatly!

  6. Theresa- I LOVED what you said today about God delighting in answering our prayers! It’s so true! I think that’s another reason why it’s so important to prayer specific prayers because it allows us to see Him in our lives better! Sounds like you have the same story as I do! So thankful for God answering our prayers! :)

Kristi- Please know that I’ll be praying for your precious little nephew! Being pregnant myself, your story really tugs at my heart! Praying for healing for him and for his parents to feel God’s love and support! Loved your story today too about your husband! Sounds like he’s a very wise man! :) You are so blessed!

Thanks sweet friends for joining me this week!

    Love God Greatly!

  7. Wow! What a beautiful lesson. Thank you for encouraging me to pray, pray, pray. My husband and I have been praying for the sell of our home or to take it off the market. We have been all over the place with prayer. Thank you for reminding me to be specific.

  8. Hi Angela,

I just noticed when reading the “Week 11 Challenge” there is a verse quoted, and it says it’s from “James 15:7″, but I think it’s supposed to be John 15:7. Just something I noticed. I’m sure that’s probably what you were meaning to put ;)

  9. Karen- thanks so much for commenting today! I was just talking with a friend today about the importance of praying specific prayers, just one of the many ways we can see God actively working in our lives. Praying for a clear answer to your prayers concerning your home. :)

Laurie- thanks so much for catching that for me! I’ve updated it now to John…..:)Some days I seriously wonder where my brain is! Thanks so much for letting me know! :)

    Love God Greatly!

  10. Will you all be doing another study after this…maybe in the summer time? A friend and I just finished a Beth Moore study and were wanting to go back and do this (sad it won’t be in real time along with you now) but wanted to finish on time in case you started a summer study.
Congrats on the newest little baby girl, Angela!
    In Him, Summer
