Week 7 Vlog- Learning About Wisdom & Peace

“The kind of wisdom a person possesses will be revealed by the kind of life she lives.”

– John MacArthur-

Proverbs 2:1-7

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you,

So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;

Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding,

If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;

Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk uprightly.

If you’re like me…you can’t get enough wisdom! I think praying for wisdom in my life is one of my top 10 reoccurring prayer requests. This week we are going to learn about two types of wisdom, Godly wisdom vs. worldly wisdom. Which type of wisdom do you feel you are listening to right now in your life? By the end of the week you will be able to discern if the wisdom you are receiving is Godly or worldly by looking at the characteristics of each type. James is going to explain to us this week what wisdom looks like in action! I can’t wait to get started with you!

Week 7 Challenge: This week our challenge is to memorize James 3:17- the 8 traits of Godly wisdom. I’ve provided a print-out for you to download to help you look over and memorize this verse!

James 3:1-12 ~ Taming The Tongue

This week’s study in James chapter 3 was hard for me. It really points out so many flaws that I have. I am a woman of many words and Proverbs 10:19 says “When words are many, sin is not absent. But he who holds his tongue is wise.”

James 3 says that NO man can tame the tongue. It is filled with deadly poison.

I long to be a woman who is filled with life giving words. Who is filled with grace and mercy. But the reality is – I stumble in many ways (3:2). And when I stumble, it brings pain to others and to my own soul. I long to be free of this problem in my life – to be so full of wisdom and self-control that I never ever stumble again!

But let me be honest, I have stumbled in my own GMG group. Last summer I had to send an apology email to the entire group. SO embarrassing! I urge you to be very careful with your words in your groups. Pray before you send your emails that God would show you if anything in your email could hurt another. Filter your words with love and grace. Be forgiving (as my girls were) when one of the girls acts immaturely. Pursue unity.

I made a video last summer about this very passage of James and included my children. Let’s teach our children while they are young the power of words. It will save them a lot of heartache and produce a generation of children who are world changers for Jesus!

Women In The Word Wednesdays

There are few books that when you read them, they truly change your life…..Mission of Motherhood is one of them for me! From the moment I started reading this book I fell in love with Sally Clarkson! I truly feel I am a better, more patient and intentional mom because of the wisdom and insight she shares.

This past weekend I was blessed with the opportunity to go to her Dallas Mom Heart Conference with my sweet friend, Courtney. We both had a wonderful time, not only because we got the chance to spend some time together and catch-up, but also because of the opportunity to hear Sally speak. Wisdom just pours out of her! I would love to be as wise as she is one day! She is becoming a role-model for me as I strive to be the mom and wife God has called me to be.

Sally’s daughter, Sarah, actually shared with us the secret of Sally’s wisdom……it’s because of the time she has spent in God’s Word. Sarah recalled one of her favorite memories growing up was seeing her mom in the morning with her cup of tea spending time reading God’s Word. Do you want to made a difference in your childrens’ lives? Do you want Godly wisdom? Then we have to make spending time with God a daily priority! I want to give my daughters’ the same memories Sally has given Sarah, I want my girls to remember waking up in the morning and finding me reading the bible, making God a priority in my life!

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the Mom Heart conference:

My Spiritual Life

If you are not spending time with God, you can not have a spiritual house.
Jesus wants us to be HOLY…not happy and shallow!
God allows difficulties because He wants us to know this is not our home.
Its a woman’s honor to overlook sin. Bitterness does not look well on a woman.

Being The Mom God Calls Me To Be

God is not after you reaching the perfect ideal, He is after you reaching HIS ideal.
It takes TIME to build a legacy! We have to live our faith out in front of our children!
Our children need to see what it looks like to walk with God. We must be intentional!
Have dreams for your family!
Make goals for your family and don’t give up on your ideals!
It is God’s will for you to be an over-comer…….God wants you to be victorious!!! Believe it!
Inspire your children to trust God! Do you leave a trail of faith for them to follow?
Stay passionate for God’s Word!
We are responsible for passing on our faith to our children.
Remember it’s the kindness of God that leads to repentance!
You are not defined by the circumstances of your life!
You can’t build influence by giving “things” give them you! Your time, forgiveness etc. Build a relationship with them and invest in their lives!
My faith matters! God is not limited except by our faith!
Faith is caught not taught!
Walk by faith with your children.

Teaching My Children

We are called to teach the Word of God to our children!
We are called to make our children world changers.
What kind of mom do you want to be in 10 years? Make a plan and go for it!
Teach your children that they have a purpose in the world. They are called to influence the world, not the world to influence them.

Cultivating A Happy Home

Food opens the hearts of our children and husbands!
Kids and husbands want a happy mom/wife. Let your children know that you are happy to be their mom.
Choose to look for joy! Happiness is a choice!

Week 6 Vlog & Learning To Tame Our Tongue

The genuineness of a person’s faith will inevitably be demonstrated by his/her speech.- John MacArthur

…For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
-Matthew 12:34-36-

Week 6 Challenge: This week we are going to focus on taming our tongues. Every morning BEFORE you get out of bed, ask God to help you control your tongue for the day. Focus on speaking words that are gentle and loving……life-giving words, not life-hurting words.

If you struggle in this area, ask your GMGs to pray over you concerning this area in your life, ask them to hold you accountable. This week let’s take it one step further though, tell your family about this week’s challenge and let them know you will be focusing on taming your tongue and applying James 3:1-12 in your life.

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;
keep watch over the door of my lips.

– Psalm 141:3-

When you feel tempted to:

When you feel tempted to “put that person in his/her place”, pray instead.

When you feel tempted to spread a “little gossip”, pray instead.

When you feel tempted to “tell it like it is”, pray instead.

When you feel tempted to return hurtful words with your own hurtful words, pray instead.

When you feel tempted to say something you shouldn’t….DON’T…pray instead.

Pray instead, ask God to give you the strength to overcome the temptation and help you develop the discipline of controlling your tongue.

Ways that we can tame our tongues:

1. Humble yourself

2. Put off all slander and evil speaking

3. Put on a heart and words of kindness, love, forgiveness and grace

4. Bring your thought life under the control of the Holy Spirit

5. Talk less

6. Think before you speak

7. Refuse to listen to slander or gossip about others
