Introducing our James Book Club!

Angela and I are so excited to unveil our James Book Club! During this 12 week study we are going to be using the S.O.A.P. Method to help us dig deeper into the scriptures we will be reading.

The Method:

1.  S- Write out the scripture passage for the day.

2. O- Write down 1 or 2 observations from the passage.

3. A- Write down 1-2 applications from the passage.

4. P- Pray over what you learned from today’s passage.

By the end of the 12 weeks, you will have written out the entire book of James in your journal. You will have meditated on every single verse in James as you have written it out and pondered each verse bit by bit.

When you come to a passage that you do not understand, I recommend Crosswalk’s Bible Study Tools found here:http://www.biblestudytools.com/ On this page in the lower right hand corner, you can find links to Bible dictionaries, commentaries, concordances, and other Bible translations, etc. I have been using this website for 7 years! I LOVE it!

I recommend Matthew Henry’s Commentary’s found here: http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/matthew-henry-complete/james/

Our Web Schedule:

On Monday’s, Angela will launch us off. She will remind you of this week’s reading assignments and share what is on her heart regarding this week’s passage.

On Wednesday’s, we invite you to link up or comment in the comment section and share what you are learning during your quiet times in James- this is your day to interact!

On Friday’s, I will close the week with a recap of what I learned- through the lens of being a wife, mother and homemaker- during this week’s assignments.

Our 12 week schedule looks like this:

We have also created a few documents for you to download which will help you prepare for our upcoming James Book Club! All the documents are saved as PDF files.

Documents to download:

Carolyn Johnson "Carrie" - January 7, 2011 - 12:46 am

Hello,

I just wanted to say Thank You and may God Bless you all who are behind this blog and getting these Bible Studies going and this book club. This is so amazing to me. I have never known TRUE Christian women who love the Lord and want to do something like this. And I grew up in a STRICT Fundamental Independent Baptist Church and School. This is so amazing. I love how you all love the Lord and want ladies to get excited about God. This just makes my heart skip a beat. Thank you so much for this. Your helping me. And if only one person tells you that – That is a great blessing, right?

Rachael - January 7, 2011 - 11:09 am

I am new to all of this, and I mean everything in gen. not just GMGS. This will be the first part of the bible I read and it will also be the first part I study. I have wanted to do this for a long time I have just been so over whelmed and this is wonderful. I have people doing the samething along with me.

becca banana - January 7, 2011 - 10:24 pm

Yay Rachael! So glad to have you as part of the discussion!

Gertha - January 8, 2011 - 9:30 am

Interesting “S.O.A.P.” method. I’m in and ready to learn(:

LaToya - January 9, 2011 - 2:04 pm

I in!!! I have never heard of the S.O.A.P. method before but it makes so much sense. I can’t wait to put it to good use in my studying. I always find that I struggle to know how to manage the info I do in my bible studies, this is a great idea!

Lisa P - January 10, 2011 - 6:55 pm

Looking forward to digging deeper into James. I’ve never used the SOAP method and looking forward to a better understanding.

Carolyn Johnson "Carrie" - January 11, 2011 - 2:11 am

Did this all start yesterday???? Monday??? the 10th??? I am starting. Not sure if I should be going into the message boards or not….And I didn’t see any post today….Is there a link? Can you email me with it? I mean if there is a certain place to go?

Angela - January 11, 2011 - 9:49 am

Hi Carolyn!

We start NEXT Monday, January 17th! I will have a post on Monday stating that we are starting and what we are to read that week. :) So excited to see you start this session off! :)

Love God Greatly!

Brenda Keith - January 11, 2011 - 10:02 am

Looking forward to the James book club! We are going to use the reading schedule with the women in our church. I have been praying for the Lord’s leading and direction in what to study. A friend made me aware of your web site and when I saw the book of James was your focus I knew that this was what the Lord wanted as many of the women are going through trials. Thank you for your hearts of worship and praise.

Summer - January 11, 2011 - 9:22 pm

I would very much like to join the GMG, but I am getting ready to start the Beth Moore David study with a friend. I would like to do the James study as well, but don’t want to take on too much! (I’m also trying to read through the Bible this year.)
Can I still join, or should I wait it out for the next time?
Thanks!

Angela - January 12, 2011 - 7:17 am

Hi Summer!

The main focus of GMG is just to help keep each other accountable in being in God’s Word. The Beth Moore David study OR the reading through the Bible both count. You don’t have to do the James study with us to be in GMG. :) The James study is just offered for those who are not already in a bible study or who are wanting a little more structure to their daily quiet time. So yes, you can still join without being in the James study! :)

Love God Greatly!
-Angela

Dawn - January 12, 2011 - 11:56 am

This is something I can do! I have been having trouble getting a consistent quiet time. I am just now reading about GMG, so when do we start?

Angela - January 12, 2011 - 12:44 pm

Hi Dawn!

We start on Monday!!! Excited to have you join us! :)

Love God Greatly!

-Angela

Tammy - January 12, 2011 - 1:32 pm

Is this how I sign up?

Angela - January 12, 2011 - 2:55 pm

Hi Tammy!

You sign up on our Message Board. :) Look at the top of the page, right next to the word Home you’ll find Message Board. Click on Message Board and there you’ll see Roll Call for January 15th-April 15th. That’s where you type in who you are, how many are in your group and where you all are from. :) Great question! Thanks for asking Tammy! We start on Monday!

Love God Greatly!

-Angela

Kelly-Jo Cole - January 12, 2011 - 8:20 pm

Marci Skinner - January 13, 2011 - 7:17 am

BLT - January 14, 2011 - 2:22 pm

I am looking for a group & my posts/comments are posting on the forum threads! I’ve never done this before {but only because I have never heard of it either!}! I am married, have 2 kids, am {almost} 27 and am a SAHM. If anybody can squeeze me into their group, AWESOME! You can email me@ whileonthisside (at) gmail (dot) com

Thanks in Advance! :D

Julie Young - January 14, 2011 - 8:05 pm

I have been trying to leave my group info for the fall rollcall on the message board, but it keeps telling me comments are closed??

Angela - January 14, 2011 - 8:25 pm

Hi Julie,

Make sure you’re adding your group info on the message board in the Roll Call section….not on the message board comment area at the bottom of the page. :) I’ve closed comments on that page. :) Try again and let me know if you’re still having trouble. :) So happy to have you and your group Julie!!!

Love God Greatly!

-Angela

Julie Young - January 15, 2011 - 8:45 am

I am still having a problem adding our group. Either that or I just dont know how to!! I am on the right part of the message board, and have scrolled down to the last entry, but it does not give you an option to add another. Anyway we are from North Little Rock AR, and there are ten girls in our group.

Angela - January 15, 2011 - 2:50 pm

I’ll add your group for you Julie. :)

Frances - January 15, 2011 - 7:32 pm

I am so excited to be a part of GMG this go around! Can’t wait for Monday.

Femininity Revisited - January 15, 2011 - 8:50 pm

I have never been so excited about a Bible study in my life. I cannot wait to begin in James on Monday. Thank you so much, Ladies, for hosting this study for us.

Roxanna Precht - January 16, 2011 - 12:35 am

I am excited to be starting this study!

Jamie DiFlorio - January 16, 2011 - 12:18 pm

Hello Ladies!
I believe I will join you on your journey through James – it is probably my favorite book of the Bible! Might I make one little suggestion? I love the method you are using, but I was thinking it might be beneficial to set aside a few minutes on Saturday to re-read everything you have read up to that point and make a few little notes on what the Holy Spirit teaches you from the text as a whole – taking the full counself of the Word of God in context. Just a suggestion! May the Lord bless each of your lives as you meditate through the Book of James! :o )

Frances - January 16, 2011 - 12:31 pm

So excited about this winter session!

Janice - January 16, 2011 - 4:15 pm

I am excited and will be doing the study alone as I want to be with just the Father and me. :)

Jeanie Cullip - January 16, 2011 - 11:27 pm

I will be completing the James study on my own and shaaring on my blog Soccer Mom in Giggle Town!

Alyssa - January 17, 2011 - 7:16 am

Who does your graphics? They are beautiful!

shirley - January 17, 2011 - 9:29 am

I am glad that I was able to join here this will be exciting!

Angela - January 17, 2011 - 3:02 pm

Hi Jamie- I love your suggestion. I have built in a reflection for our Week 12 assignment, but not on a weekly basis. That might be something I’ll need to add for next week! :) Great idea! :)

Frances, Janice, Jeanie and Shirley- Sooo blessed to have you all join us! So thankful for each of you! :)

Alyssa- some of the graphics I made myself, some I purchased off of Etsy from Babeeling Design, (she is really sweet BTW) and some I found off of istockphoto.com. :) Soo glad you like the graphics…..you have good taste girl!!!! hahahaha!:)

Love God Greatly!

Tina - January 22, 2011 - 10:50 am

Dear Courtney and Angela,

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! For listening to the voice of God. I am so grateful for you both and this online ministry! The book of James is going to be so fun to study together! This study (and your most recent video)…couldn’t be any more timely.

God bless y’all! =]

PS: I am 19 and I fin this blog and what is on here to be very effective! I feel we can learn from any age or gender. If God spoke through a donkey He can speak through anyone! :)

arminda - February 3, 2011 - 8:44 am

I’m currently on Week 1. I’m doing this study by myself because I missed it until now. Anyway, I had printed off the Week 1 assignment last month and came back this morning to print off the rest of the weeks to put in my binder but now it is only showing Week 12? Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Thanks so much for putting this together. I’m also reading Made to Crave and at least starting off, I’m finding myself trying a lot of things together. God is so cool like that! :)

Kelly Peavey - February 10, 2011 - 5:08 am

It’s so important that we do not show favoritism toward certain people, while looking down upon other groups of other people. May God help us to love everyone!!!
