My Life Verse

A “life verse” is a verse or passage in the Bible that is significant to you. It may define your life, give you inspiration or direction, be something that you hang onto as you face difficult circumstances, or it could even be the passage of scripture that brought you to a belief in Jesus Christ.

My life verse is Galatians 6:9 which says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF we do not give up!”

This verse applies to every hard thing in life. When I am weary of getting up early for my quiet time (or to blog) I remind myself “do not give up“. When I’m tempted to be critical of my husband, I am reminded -”do not grow weary“. When my children need disciplined over and over and over I am reminded “do not give up.” When I grow weary in different aspects of serving at church I am reminded “do not give up”. When I pray for lost loved ones year in and year out with no signs of change I am reminded “do not give up.”

This verse helps me to persevere when I am weary and want to give up – why? Because in time there will be a harvest – but only IF we do not give up!

I believe we need this verse today because we are on the homestretch of the fall session of Good Morning Girls.  Next Wednesday, December 15th, it comes to an end.  Do not get weary now – finish strong!

  1. I appreciate you sharing this verse, and I will share it with my GMG group today. I’ve heard others share this one recently, especially in regards to mothering/parenting. I’ve been thinking of posting this one at a prominent location in my home!

Through high school, college, and a little beyond, my life verses were Proverbs 3:5-6. I think that my life verse changed a little in the last few years, and I would now claim Philippians 4:11 – “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” & Philippians 4:6 – ” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

  2. In my junior high/senior high years, my life verse was Acts 20:24, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

Now I’m a wife, mother, and youth group director, and I have lived the past 4 years by the verse you listed above, Galations 6:9, especially since my husband quit helping with the youth two years ago. I keep telling myself if I don’t give up it will be worth it to see these teenagers in heaven someday. I have baby number 2 coming in May, so I don’t know about next year! It’s definitely a matter of prayer!

Thanks for sharing your verse and what it means to you!

  3. That’s my verse too!!! I also lean on II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Any time the enemy tries to contain me. I was asked to be an assistant leader for my small group for our ladies Bible study and boy did the enemy go after me. I had to claim verses and realize I can’t be limited, it would stop development and potential if I stayed where I was. Did you ever notice the enemy never tries to contain rock stars, Hollywood actors, talk show hosts, etc. It seems like its only Christians. I really appreciate you and your ministry. Thanks for all you do!

  4. I too love that verse. But one of my all time favorite verses… since becoming a Christian is John 16:33 “For I have told you these things, so that in my you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” It speaks to my heart so greatly… we may have peace… JESUS HAS ALREADY OVERCOME THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!! Thanks for your inspiration!!!

  5. Hi Courtney!

Life Verse: Phil.-4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This verse continues to help me “get through” difficult times.

  6. Good Morning, my life verse would be Jeremiah 29:11-13.

  7. my life verse is Isaiah 41:10 Fear not for I am with you do not be dismayed for I am your God I will give you strength I will help you I will uphold you With the right hand of my righteousness. I struggle with anxiety and this helps

  8. I love the idea of a personal life verse. Mine is Psalsm 32:7: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which though shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” I lean on this promise when I need direction and feel lost. We also have a school verse which our home school is named after (Path of Life), it’s Psalm 16:11. Thank you for this great post today! :) I found it through Women Living Well.

  9. Heather Johnson says:

My life verse is “I sought the LORD and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are RADIANT. Their faces are never covered with shame.” Ps. 34:4-5 YAY for HIs deliverance!

  10. My life verse is Romans 12:1-2. I have always loved this verse, way back to when my grandparents would pray this verse over my life. I especially now like the Message version- Romans 12:1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

    Thanks for sharing this today!

  11. Hi…I love this, I have a few life verses, but the one that sticks out the most is Mark 10:27…”for with God all things are possible.” I shared on my blog what God has done in marriage and that verse was one that meant alot to me during those difficult times. Check out my blog to read my post on my life verse.

    God Bless you!

I think this is such a great ministry. I had been praying for quite some time about getting together with some gals that needed encouragment and guidance with their devotions. And this is a great way to do that. I’m looking forward to January to start up a GMG girls here in Henderson, NV.

    In His Love,
    Adrienne

  12. Courtney!!! This just made my day….Ok I will try to make this short and sweet but I have been obsessed with the word harvest since this last September. It keeps following me and revealing God in different parts of my life. I wrote a post about Harvest

    http://blessingsbyblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/harvest.html

I fell upon WLW and GMG today and have been captivated by this amazing place of strong Christian women sharing their faith and right away wanted to subscribe and join a GMG group…so excited for what God has planned for me through 2011. But reading this post made me even more grateful for God’s hand in EVERYTHING. Reading your verse about HARVEST made me smile! God bless
