One of my favorite verses to reflect on at Christmas time is Isaiah 9:6 which says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Jesus is the Mighty God! While Jesus was fully human he was not merely man. JI Packer says “The really staggering Christian claim is that Jesus of Nazareth was God made man… The more you think about it, the more staggering it gets. Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as this truth of the incarnation.”
Matthew 1:23 says “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel which means “God with us.” So who do you say that he is?
Our only appropriate response to Jesus is to worship him as God. If you saw Mel Gibson’s movie “The Passion of Christ” you were moved by the reality of Jesus’ humanity as you watched him be flogged and crucified. It was the portrayal of Jesus’ humanity while maintaining his deity that made this movie a box office hit.
Do not forget what this baby Jesus – the Mighty God – has done for you – and worship him during this holiday season. He is worthy!

I’m so glad you shared this post. I have some Jehovah’s Witnesses that come to my house at least 2 or 3 times a month. This is the verse that has them thinking the most. Jesus is God ~ no way around it!!
Thank you! I am so very excited about the beginning of Advent and I feel that you just shared it right now. Thank you for not making me wait.

Courtney can I ask you where you got the picture above? It is stunning! Never seen anything like it.
Your words feed my soul. Thank you for being the person you are and having this blog.
Stephanie – I did a google image search with this title “Santa bowing to Jesus” and it came up. There are lots of them…but I don’t have the link handy…try google images.
Thank you so much for your sweet words!
Much Love,
Courtney
He IS worthy. It helps us at Christmas to listen to sacred, powerful music (the Messiah, Magnificat, etc) – not just the cutesy, happy Mannheim Steamroller music (although we like that too). As Christians, we have to balance the joyful part of the season with the part that makes us revere our great Savior and the sacrifices that were made.
Thank you so much for this post. I have been trying to reduce my focus on stuff at this point in my life, and not looking forward to the holidays. Thank you for reminding me what the focus should be on, which is what I had recently written on my blog.

If it wasnt for him where would we be??? I praise him in the calm and in the storms of lift. If you dont know my Jesus, You should because he his Awsome. God Bless each and everyone.
