Women In The Word Wednesday – Come Link Up or Share!

If you are a blogger we invite you to blog about what you are learning in your walk with God and then link up below (this includes devotionals you have written).  If you are not a blogger, we invite you to weekly share in the comments section what God is teaching you in his word.

Acts 4:13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

I recently read this commentary from Dr. Charles Stanley discussing Acts 4:13 and was so encouraged by it that I wanted to share it with you today. Do you ever have those days where you feel un-usable for God? How about just plain ordinary….nothing special about you? Me too! Read this my sweet sister and be encouraged!:)

Anyone who studies God’s ways soon realizes they are quite different from man’s. Worldly wisdom says that extraordinary people and abundant resources are needed for great tasks, yet the Lord often chooses the small and insignificant to achieve His purposes on earth.

For example, Christ selected a rather unimpressive group of men as disciples, yet after being filled with the Spirit, they “turned the world upside down.” During His ministry on earth, Jesus fed thousands with a child’s meager lunch, and He viewed the widow’s two small coins as a greater offering than all the other generous donations (John 6:5-12; Luke 21:2-3).

God specializes in using people who aren’t naturally qualified to accomplish His tasks. Moses was a verbally impaired 80-year-old shepherd who liberated a nation. After Gideon hid from the enemy, God made him a valiant warrior. David was the overlooked youngest son who killed a giant with a small stone and became Israel’s greatest king.

God isn’t looking for impressive people; He wants willing ones who will bow the knee in humble submission. Being weak and ordinary doesn’t make you useless. Rather, it positions you for a demonstration of divine power in your life. He takes insignificant ones and delights in making them great.

Have you ever considered that your lack of ability, talent, or skill is the ideal setting for a great display of Christ’s power and glory? If you are willing to submit to His leading and venture into the scary yet rewarding territory of faith and obedience, He will do great things in and through you.

Wow! I hope you loved reading that as much as I did! I love it that God uses the ordinary to do extraordinary things for His purposes! If you are feeling unimpressive and ordinary……then it looks like you are in good company!

Love God Greatly!

I am a member of a Good Morning Girls group and the transformation that the Lord is pursuing in us is absolutely amazing. Although, I fall and make mistakes, reading scripture and discussing with the word with friends has been the biggest blessing in my life. I am walking with the Lord and I have women who are my front line walking with me. Thank you for inspiring me…the Lord is good all the time! Amen!

Oh how I needed to hear that! I wake up in the morning so inspired and ready to serve the Lord but yet when I leave my house I feel so small and ordinary. I have trouble putting my thoughts down and I appreciate all the work you all are doing here to teach and inspire us. Have a blessed day!

GOOD NEWS! Thanks for sharing. God looks inside of hearts and He sees the ability that each of us have, to use it for HIS kingdom, even when we don’t see it. Blessings!!

I have learnt a lot about relying on God’s strength. it is so easy to plough through a day, trying to be a “super-mom” – looking after the children, home-schooling, cleaning, cooking – but the moment that we forget we are relying on God’s strength, we’ll fail.

I have also been so blessed re-reading passages I haven’t read in a while – Isaiah has been amazing and the epistles have had so many new things I have seen!

I need to get back to my earlier rises, but life has been hectic, getting ready to put my home on the market, and I have been exhausted!

This week I was reminded of the Serenity Prayer.

I was 5 states away, traveling for work and my toddler daughter got the stomach flu. My husband just started a new job and doesn’t have a lot of sick time. “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.” I couldn’t be there to help. It was heartbreaking not to be there to help, to make sure my husband could go to work.

Then the next line hit me: “The courage to change the things I can.” I was scheduled to fly home the next evening. We had nothing on our agenda for the next day, but my flight availability was such that I was “stuck” for that last day. But, I found the courage to explain to my boss what was happening. He let me fly home that night in case my daughter needed to stay home another day, and allow my husband to go to work.

In the end, my daughter had a very short bout with that flu (normally it’s a 2-3 day affair), but having the peace and security of being home just in case was a huge blessing. Praise God!

Monica- I LOVED what you wrote!!!! Would you mind if I posted it on our Facebook page???? What an encouragement YOU were to me today!!!

Stephanie- Just remember Stephanie, there is NOTHING ordinary about you! God made you totally unique and He LOVES you just the way He made YOU!

Vanessa- I know it’s wonderful news! God has made each of specially designed for His perfect plan.

Caroline- I’m praying for you! Try not to get in the trap of being a “Super-Mom”, I know it’s hard but you are 100% right that we have to rely on God’s strength. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!!!!

Mandy- So glad to hear that you were able to fly home early to be with your little girl! What a blessing to have such an understanding boss! God is GOOD! So glad to hear that everything worked out!!

I absolutely agree. We can do nothing apart from Him. It’s such a blessing to be on *this* side of Pentecost. Like the prophets of the OT, we have the Spirit dwelling within us to empower us for good deeds. The truth of that just floors me!

Thanks for hosting AND for visting Chrysalis.

Blessings, e-Mom
