Led By The Spirit Summer Challenge #3 Joy

Happy Memorial Day!

I’d like to first thank those who have served our country either in the past or present! We are forever indebted to you for your service! I simply cannot express in words how appreciative I am to those who have given up so much so I can enjoy the freedoms I have been given. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Week 3 Challenge: Let’s learn together how to get in the habit of praising God! Share at least one praise with your Good Morning Girls group each day this week! What can you praise God about today?

This week we are digging deeper into the Fruit of the Spirit, focusing this time on JOY. One misconception many people have is in order to be joyful, you have to be happy. Being joyful and being happy are not one in the same. Being happy depends on your circumstances. Being joyful is in spite of your circumstances.

1. Being joyful is not a feeling, its an act of obedience
We, as Christians, are called to be joyful and rejoice in our Lord both in Philippians 4:4 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16. But how can we always be joyful? By remembering why we are to be joyful! Despite what’s going on in your life right now, you have your salvation to be joyful about! On those days where being joyful is a struggle, focus your mind on what Christ has already done for you!

2. Praising God through pain fosters joy in your life
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise- the fruit of lips that confess his name.” (Hebrews 13:15) Let’s face it, we all have trials in our lives at one point or another that cause us great pain and can keep us from offering sacrifices of praise to God.  As we learn to praise God in the midst of our heartache, tears and uncertainty, God is able to transform our pain into heartfelt praise.

God’s joy is a gift of grace to us as we encounter the hardship and tribulation and persecution of life in this world, and this supernatural joy, given through God’s Spirit, transcends all conditions of life. – Elizabeth George

In the following clip Beth Moore talks about how God uses pain in your life to produce joy.

3. Realize God is in control
I always marvel at Paul in the book of Philippians. Here he is sitting in jail, his future is uncertain and what is he doing? Writing a book on JOY! Paul learned the key to exhibiting joy in your life is to focus on Christ and obey Him.

Paul’s joy in tribulation was motivated by his knowledge that the “best” of God’s presence, purpose, and power was undoubtedly discovered in the worst of circumstances. – Beth Moore

Do you feel like you are currently in the worst of circumstances? Please take heart and know that God does have a purpose for your heartache! Many times God allows these trails because they bring us closer to Him and in the end we are able to experience His indescribable joy!

4. Look to God’s promises
If you struggle with exhibiting joy in your life, begin to memorize some of the many promises God has given His children. 365 Promises, is a website that lists one promise for each day in the year. Check it out!

Throwing off the misconception of happiness and joy, and getting into the habit of praising God in spite of your circumstances is a great start toward developing greater joy in your life!

Week 3 Challenge: Let’s learn together how to get in the habit of praising God! Share at least one praise with your Good Morning Girls group each day this week! What can you praise God about today?

Feel free to share your praises on the message board this week! I look forward to reading what God is doing in your lives!

  1. Thanks Ang! This goes right along with Nancy Leigh DeMoss’s 30 day Gratitude Challenge I am currently doing! Last week she had us list all the things we are thankful for that have never happened such as:

    1. I am thankful I’ve never had a flat tire.
    2. I am thankful my house did not burn down last week when we had a fire (furnace fan caught fire but went out on its own inside steel box – close one!)
    3. I am thankful my kids have not fallen out of their tree they love to climb (yet lol!)
    4. I am thankful I haven’t had a computer virus on my computer (our school computer has one right now – so frustrating – but I am so glad it’s not this computer that I blog from and have all my pictures on – so thankful for this!)
    5. I am thankful we’ve never gone a day without food, clothing or shelter. We are blessed!

We can praise God for all the blessings in our lives and also for the blessings of things that have never happened! And it truly does bring Joy! Thanks Ang for your sweet encouragement today!

    Love you,
    Courtney

    2. I am thankful for The Lord opening up new doors in my life. Nine months ago, I lost my job and I am now a stay at home Mom to my 2 wonderful children. This time is precious. Thank you Lord for my husband’s job.
    3. Thank you Lord for all the service men and women serving everyday all over the world. Some giving the ultimate sacrifice. I pray for them Lord and for their families.
    4. I am thankful for my Father who has been gone 6 years now. He was a Vietnam Veteran and came back from the war never quite the same.

  5. As I sit and meditate with the Bible in hand and Lord in my heart reading the Book of Signs (John), I realize that He is always present and giving us signs of His love. Whether it be in the words of a song, wings of a bird soaring through the sky, or the hugs and kisses from a loved one. He is always here, always showing us the greatness He creates. My life is rich because of the blessings He bestows in me and the family He has given me to cherish every day of my life. I am forever grateful. Thank you Lord for I BELIEVE!

  6. Tammy Real-McKeighan says:

What a wonderful, encouraging post! May God bless you richly in the days ahead!

  7. Ohhh I so enjoyed reading each of your responses today!

Courtney- I am so thankful that God brought us together so many years ago and that He gave me such a wonderful sister-like friend to model my life after. :) I am forever grateful for you!

Michelle- I couldn’t agree with you more! God makes the difference! :)

Sonya- Praying friends are the BEST!!! I love reading through God’s promises!

Angie- I rejoice with you over your ability to stay home with your boys and for your husbands job! Both my dad and step-dad are Vietnam Veterans, they both lost friends in the war. Just heartbreaking what they all went through. My step-dad actually asked Jesus into his heart out there in on the battlefield.

Monica- I sooo enjoy looking for His "signs of love" as I go about my days too! :)

Tammy- Thank you for your sweet response! I pray the same over you!

Praying you all have a blessed week ahead!

    Love God Greatly,

    Angela

I am thankful that my son listens to his father and me.
